I ignore stuff like this now. Happy to live in Bradford and let the idiots outside think what they want.
As much real-world understanding went into that post as the ones saying "£50k for an A3" ... people seem happy to flaunt their lack of knowledge!
it's an A class audi, the fact that it's the 'S' model does not get away from that. It's an A3, Emperor's new clothes and all that, looks dull as ditchwater (and that's coming from someone who has a Tesla ). A few years ago we looked at a Q3 for Mrs DG which I'd assume is/was based on the A series Audi (happy to be corrected) and was left distinctly unimpressed. If it makes you feel any better I feel the same was about the AMG35/45 - insanely capable but dull dull dullAs much real-world understanding went into that post as the ones saying "£50k for an A3" ... people seem happy to flaunt their lack of knowledge!

The rest of Europe doesn't seem to be obsessed with HAVING to have a new car on the drive whether affordable or not. Unlike people in the UK many of whom are too dim to understand even the basics of finance.
New car sales are a lot lower in the rest of Europe then?Edited by JJJ. on Wednesday 17th April 17:45

Germany registered just under 3m new cars last year, the UK just under 2m
With populations of 83m Vs 66m, the means Germany registered one car per 27 people, UK it was one car per 33 people. Almost 20% fewer.

The Germans for instance are discerning when it comes to buying new cars. Beit a VW, BMW or Merc. Base models without options are far more common than the UK market. And their registration system is different too, thus that doesn't drive new car sales as per the UK. The are also top of the league as savers too.
I don't recall who, and can't find the quote now but I recall many years ago the CEO of one of the large German autos calling the UK the golden isles, or words to that effect because you guys always buy the highest spec cars you can afford (where the juicy profit is) where as Germans tend to buy better value base cars with little to no extras.Edited by JJJ. on Wednesday 17th April 17:45

You’re suggesting that the UK population is worse at maths than the rest of Europe? That seems a bit unlikely.
I was in a Toyota dealership recently asking about the new GR Yaris, and had a look at their rather generic SUV thing, which I think was about £50,000.
As I mentioned in another thread, there was a new M4 at £99,000 in Park Lane BMW last week, and the replacement for my wife’s £19,000 Smart car is about £37,000.
New cars are expensive nowadays. £50k for an S3 may be only £4,000 less than I paid for my RS4 in 2007, but it’s about right relative to other cars.
