18mpg
£600 for decent tyres ~ 20-30k
£500 for brakes ~ 40k
£120 battery ~ 5 years
Servicing - you need 2 air filters, 8l of oil, Bosch spark plugs are only £4.50 each
Running costs are not high bar petrol (to be expected).
Potential borkage is a different matter But then that's why it's £2k.......
All seems pretty reasonable, best not to worry about any potential borkage until it happens.£600 for decent tyres ~ 20-30k

I had a Turbo one of these for a few years from new. I didn’t like it much at the time, lazy transmission unsupportive seats mainly, but now I think they can look quite appealing. These had manually locking diffs so are extremely capable off road and at £2k you’d be more inclined to do it. I think there’s some kind of dealer initiative, at least in Europe and the US, to take these in, rebuild as necessary and kit them out with off road kit. Look pretty cool and would save a lot over a Dakar, even if you had a GTS as well.
Thirstiest car I ever owned though which includes the 612 Scaglietti. From memory I was using about 600 liters a month.

A V8 Porsche for £2k! What could possibly go wrong...?
In all seriousness, despite having no Porsche experience I get the feeling that this car will either just carry on working with nothing but maintenance, or, it'll absolutely rinse you as soon as you drive it off the dealers forecourt, there'll be no in-between.

Do these come in manual flavour too?
Only on the later GTS V8 I think. It's a shame that the engine was specifically designed for the Cayenne and therefore is very tall, meaning it's of little use as a donor for something a bit lighter. The later S and GTS run 385/400bhp and considering you can buy whole cars for a few grand, would make very affordable engine swaps.

Surely it is just easier to file for bankruptcy rather than buy this an actually achieve it?
I find it fun finding out the hard way Currently running an old e39 530i that will need a clutch soon, in the last year it has cost no more to run than the R53 Cooper S I owned the year before... could explode in a ball of fire but until then will carry on enjoying the fantastic m54, handling and comfort.

A great choice, and a great gamble!
I had a 3.2 model in the same grey and owned it for about 5 years. Absolutely loved it, my favourite ever car purchase.

I wouldn’t have an S model though, too risky for me with that engine personally.
Lovely read. I've been running a 2004 3.2s for the last 4 years and the only thing I've needed was a drivers window regulator. Indy servicing is fine- full big service with plugs for £300. Not been troublesome, very comfy and capable, got 28mpg on a 2000 mile European road trip. Oh , and the best air con I've ever had. Like a blast chiller . When it's time to replace might just get the face-lift version.I had a 3.2 model in the same grey and owned it for about 5 years. Absolutely loved it, my favourite ever car purchase.

Well yes, but that's a rather major "bar". Doing an average 7k miles a year at 18mpg is, what, £2500 a year in fuel? That soon adds up to the point you'd be better off spending a bit more on something more modern which does 30mpg instead. blue_haddock said:

Don’t really mind the expensive VED, it’s a lot less than the monthlies on some very average cars.
I saw a chrysler PT cruiser convertible in a facebook group the other day - £710 a year to tax!Which is absolutely crazy!

Having a random urge to have a look at projects that have used the engine in this for a power plant. Surely be able to make some money off the rest of the car and box? Hmmm off to eBay!
