Brilliant!

Now can we also send them all to a desert island with a film crew and see how the situation develops laugh

Must be great fun in DVLAs FoI unit, another day, another barrage of car nerds seeking random data biggrin

Still, good to see that sometimes assumptions can be accurate.

Keen to imply that he is "considerably richer than yow"

Seen a few on Transit vans too which would bump up the Ford numbers.

A venn diagram showing the overlap between recycling firm owners, range rover sport drivers and BO55 number plate owners would be very enlightening.

One of mine has B19 in the middle, but I'm only a partial tool. I generally drive very nicely.

Got to be a few on those Chryslers with the fake Bentley grille. Generally driven by an overweight white man with a red face and checked shirt.

I was doing the usual hypothetical car shopping the other day and I wondered where all the B055 plates end up so I put in an FOI request to the DVLA to see what the top 5 makes of cars in the UK that use that renowned VRM and here are the results from Feb 2024 and in case anyone else is curious.

Make Number of vehicles
LAND ROVER 781
MERCEDES-BENZ 611
BMW 528
FORD 514
AUDI 425

No surprises here except for Ford beating Audi?! What Fords are they going on?
Certainly no surprises, but I'm wondering if the top 5 makes displaying any private plate would look much different.

The biggest surprise to me is that the total number of them is so low.

How can it be that, when there's only about 3000 cars with BO55 numberplates in the country out of a total of 33 million cars, there is always at least one parked across theee disabled spaces outside the supermarket?

Well, they use all the letters except I and Q, so you've got 24 x 24 x 24 combinations for the 3 random letters at the end. 13824 of them.
They then remove the offensive ones (so, presumably, 'BUM' is not there, and other ruder words). Let's say there's 12,000 once all the rudeness is gone.

Does seem like <800 Land Rovers still feels a small number compared to that 12k total.

Odd choice. If I owned that car, I wouldn't choose a plate suggesting it only had 80bhp.

Pick up trucks I suspect.

I’d have correctly guessed that LR would be top. I’m very surprised things like L200s aren’t on there, they all seem to have one.
Focus ST/RS too, L200's old hat now all the bosses have moved on to Rangers/ Defenders/ the Merc pickup thing.
Never seen a BO55 on an ST or RS they are usually R5 or RS or ST certainly on warrior type trucks driven by Neanderthal builders with misspelt acronyms on the bonnet though...
