From what I’ve heard good luck getting an insurance quote
That

With EV insurance already double ICE, this added to the RR insurance tax will make it for super rich only. I do think it will de value by half quicker than an ICE one so maybe 1st and 2nd year bargains…
Plus i have heard the weight starts at just over 3t with 4 adults and luggage owners will need to check that their licecnes cover them to drive vehciles over the 3.5t limit!!

But i can see mnay appearing on the streets in London shortly, one plus point no carppy ULEZ to pay

Do you need C class drivers license or does it fit under 3.5 tonnes?

They changed the category limits for 'alternatively' powered vehicles back in 2018. Would seem you're allowed up to 4.25 tons for vans on a Cat B license - whether that is just a mis-wording and it should say vehicles confused

It's always funny how many people are negative about these cars, yet this is the OG. The daddy, the one that started it all.

I would rather have an electric one of these any day, than have to endure any of the ludicrous fake SUV giant boat things that are offered by every manufacturer, cars which are in essence all aping this one.

Britain is nuts about SUVs, it's an epidemic. You see people buying absurd things like the Nissan Qashqai, the Mokka, the Grandland X or whatever it's called, and they're all style over substance. No one wants an 'old man' estate any more, or even a hatchback.

It's about prestige, image. And this, the car above, the Range Rover, is the one that started it all off.

If it wasn't for reality TV showing nearly every celebrity driving one of these in their 'stable', plus the advent of PCP allowing mere mortals like us to buy these things on monthlies, I doubt the Range Rover would have become as ubiquitous in the UK.

But this is a car which transcends rationality, which transcends even a basic understanding of UK infrastructure, road space, and parking widths.

People buy this because it is quite simply the best in proposition, comfort and perceived image.

What is the starting price going to be....
My completely uneducated guess is

£170k, easily over 200k with a bit of spec.

And 3,100KGS.

Two decades ago you'd drive something well under 2 tonnes and now it'll be well over 3 or perhaps even over 4. Anyone calculated impact of that many more HGVs (yes, that's what you're driving, a lorry) driving on roads, especially local lanes? Or increased tyre and brake usage due to sheer weight? Course not.

I agree this is by far the best powertrain available in the current Range Rover lineup.

This should in theory be far better for everything you could want from a Range Rover though - smoothness, quietness, refinement, instant response, consistent and seamless torque that can be perfectly metered out (useful for off roading in particular), effortless punch. The only drawback will be a likely range that starts with a 2 on a good day.

don't recall anyone in the industry pulling off a successful mass market ICE platform based EV.
They'd might as well just skipped this transition step altogether.
Only most of the BMW EV range

I would also imagine that JLR will have designed this platform with electrification in mind, its only been around a couple of years so an EV model isnt a surprise, its been planned all along.

I really don't care, it's still an EV so I won't be buying one.

Wonder if they'll keep the same (or similar) FFRR wading depth?

I had to go through some pretty deep water recently in an EV and had a real clench moment!

I'm guessing they'll be using a heat pump to get the battery to a decent temp to facilitate charging in sub zero conditions. Can't imagine a BEV at this price point not having one to be honest.
Forgive my ignorance. But what is FFRR?
Full Fat Range Rover?
For Fiery powerfully built directors Range Rover?
For powering through my Fiefdom Range Rover?
Valid question.

I am sure JLR will cease production forthwith based on this momentous and far reaching revelation.

What is it about EVs that brings out the petulant toddler act in middle aged men ?

we recently had a seminar with our company leasing provider, and they said they won't provide a Range Rover to anyone in Greater London as the insurance costs are prohibitive. Given that a car like this, with it's BIK friendly EV powertrain, will be overwhelmingly supplied as a company lease vehicle that has surely got to be a problem/

Full Frequency Range Recording - a system invented by Decca for improved sound quality from records back in the 1940s.

I've never been able to fathom what it has to do with Range Rovers.

Didn't I read somewhere they couldn't release the 7 seater version because it exceeds the 3.5T weight thus requiring a lorry licence in many countries and that JLR were lobbying to have the law adapted or changed in that regard?

Maybe I dreamt it, but I wouldn't be surprised.
