Of the last four articles on this site, this is the only one containing an ICE car. And despite being the most interesting (and to me embodies what Pistonheads is about), has far less comments than those articles on electric vehicles. Pistonheads. Where pistons don't matter.

To be fair, at least the comments here are actually about this car, rather than 6 pages of ranting about "weight...blah blah...range...blah... CO2 doesn't cause global warming anyway... blah... but what if I want to drive non-stop from Edinburgh to Bilbao towing my 37 ft powerboat on a trailer..."

They forgot a vital car in the Deltasphere....
The pre-Integrale 165hp Lancia Delta HF Turbo 4x4 that won WRC 1987.

That game image is an Integrale Evo though, not an HF4WD, the latter being an 8v Integrale in nearly every way except for the lack of flared arches.
HF4WDs are becoming the rarest of the lot so it's only a matter of time before there's a silly priced one appearing in the classifieds.

Don't worry, within the next year or two Lancia will be revealing their new EV Delta, then there will be the expected number of comments... mostly regurgitating the usual pro & anti-EV arguments wink

You need to drive one or go in one, there are not many cars that are so engaging, sublime steering and handling, so easy to drive fast and slow, LHD hardly noticeable once you are in it, best car I have owned and driven by far.

I hankered after an integrale when launched, but like the Sunbeam lotus a generation earlier they were always beyond my reach! I don't think they'd hit the spot quite the same today though. Looks the real deal, but it's a miss from me. Time doesn't always heal all!

Most of the EV comments are hate posts though.

The integrale 16v is the third iteration of the Delta in top flight rallying (4th if you include the not-really-a-Delta S4) - the HF4WD, the integrale 8v, then the integrale 16v. In 1987, the HF4WD won 9 of the 13 WRC rounds, adding 2 more in 1988 before the integrale 8v came along taking a further 8 victories in 1988 and 6 more in 1989 before the 16v version came out late in the season.

I found 11 on Autoscout24 ranging from €20k to €43k. They're out there, but they've crept up in value too & are no longer the bargain they once were. Still not Integrale money though, I concede.

Having worked for Lancia in the late 80s I had always wanted one of these and finally bought what was supposed to be a well looked after example for £4000 in 2004. It was horrendous and very disappointing even when it was working (which was rarely). Having spent another £4000 in 12 months just keeping it from disintegrating, I sold it for £4000, so not the greatest ownership experience. Even allowing for inflation, the thought of paying £50000 for one is pretty scary.

If I remember correctly it was only around 6 or so years ago I went up to Walkers in Yorkshire.

Had the idea of getting an Evo 1 Integrale, handing it over to them and having it turned into a 50-50 rally / road spec car. Various improvements to the car suggested by them including all new suspension, body strengthening also Including a potential respray and decals also being applied it'd have been iro £70k including the car purchase.

Prices seem to have gone absolutely crazy!

Have previous history of making mad cars even madder biggrin

My most recent Integrale (Evo1) had many fast road mods by a known specialist in Reading. Supposedly 320 to 340bhp, Porsche front brakes, boost control, paddle clutch (until I replaced it). Laggy, but went like the clappers over 4k rpm... However it broke down 5 times in the 18 months that I'd owned it. I completely lost faith in it getting me to the office just 4 miles away.

I'd avoid buying one with fast road mods, before that, my (Walkers sourced) standard 1990 16v was a daily driver for 4 years and apart from needing a new steering rack (apparently due to it having the Delta HPE MK2 wheels fitted, before I sourced a set of proper pepper-pots) it was reliable.

When I reminisce about my Delta days, it's typically about that 16v or the HFie, HF4WD or 8v Integrale that I had before it. Never about the Evo.

I went down a totally different route and going by your experience made a wise choice!

I like it.
But not at 52 grand .... Yes yes I know anything even slightly 80's or 'retro' is now fetching a lot of money, I just think this is not really 'that' special to command a 50+k price.
My friend had both a Delta HF Turbo, and a Fiat Uno Turbo ie at the same time, and while I thought the Uno was a stbox, it survived daily thrashings and being treated with sheer abuse, without any complaints. It grew on me a lot, and while the interior was flimsy, and the metal body not much more than tin foil, it just seemed to work and provide a lot of fun.
His Delta HF Turbo only worked for a week at a time before breaking down. It was constantly in bits, bonnet open, head off, and the rest of the car didn't fair any better. It looked like it should have been a solid performer, but it just didn't stand up to anywhere near the same abuse the Uno did.
I do like this car though, but to me, when I value it mentally, it's a 25k car tops.

Remember seeing an Integrale parked up in Manchester in my 20’s. The tyres looked so wide - they’re narrower than my family hack has now.
