" everyone else"... Thats some way to describe the tiny amount of people who can and will sink over £150k plus into a used car...... Ill get my coat / cagoule).J4CKO said:

The continued ignorance in branding any Lamborghini/Audi/Porsche/Bugatti/etc as a 'rebadged VW' reminds me how stupid and bitter some people are ;-)
Ok, 'rebadged' is an overstatement. But the architecture of the Urus is shared with the Touareg, Q8 etc as noted. Some people don't care about architecture and are happy to buy the same car in different clothes. To me it's fundamental, as it strongly constrains weight distribution, suspension fundamentals, which engines and drivetrains can fit, and the basic dimension minimums.A Revuelto is its own bespoke architecture from the ground-up, not a rebadged VW. Conversely a Urus shares its architecture with the VW, putting the whole engine ahead of the front axle DKW-style
(note front driveshafts)
By contrast, the DBX is a bespoke architecture. The Purosangue uses the FF drivetrain where the engine is almost entirely behind the front axle.
I can't afford any of the Urus, DBX or Purosangue but I know which ones I respect, because the latter two vehicles' high asking prices reflect the cost of developing and manufacturing something special.
PH is now in th business of satire.
Eco-friendly, 2.5-tonne super SUV
All this talk of a cost of living crisis doesn’t appear to be troubling Lamborghini customers
Very bad taste.
If government's today had balls, they would tax this crap out of existence. It is not just that they use 1/3 to a 1/2 more materials and energy to make, it is also the collosal use of sundries throughout their pointless lives.

Maybe it's an inequality crisis, not a cost-of-living crisis?
Ya think?Who was it that said "Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich"?

Interested to see what the residuals will be like on the Ferrari Purosangue.Usually values of 4 seat V12 Ferrari's go down quicker than Jordan on reality TV star but if they are like the Urus they'll do very well.

Not sure the evidence fits your hypothesis. The high residuals only mean that there are a few thousands people out there with enough money to buy a used one who like it enough to do so.I am pretty confident that the vast majority of "everyone else", if everyone means the UK population, couldn't give less of a st about this car. I 100% guarantee that if one of these drove past my mum, my wife, my dad, my brother, or almost any of my non-petrolhead friends they would have absolutely no idea whatsoever they had been passed by a Lamborghini. If i pointed at it and said it was a £180,000 car they would think I was taking the piss.

There was one of these in bright yellow in the car park of the country hotel we were staying in earlier this week. When she saw it, my wife burst out laughing. 'What is that!', she exclaimed. I told her and also what it cost new. She shook her head and said 'I'm so glad you have nothing to compensate for, dear'.
You and mrs tr3 sound like a miserable, bitter pair of individuals. Why would you worry about what other s spend their money on? Perhaps you should stick to sitting at the beach in your ev MG with a blanket over your knees being stressed about those more successful than you Edited by GolinG68 on Thursday 25th April 17:34

Crikey. Never realised spending money as one pleases generates so much bitterness and judgement. A little like the EV brigade on here who “correct” every post or opinion that does not align. I therefore totally agree with Mr and Mrs tr3a.

You and mrs tr3 should like a miserable, bitter pair of individuals. Why would you worry about what other s spend their money on? Perhaps you should stick to sitting at the beach in your ev MG with a blanket over your knees being stressed about those more successful than you His wife saw a car and didn't like it, then was amazed at how expensive it was. And from that you concluded that they are miserable, bitter and stressed about people who are more successful than them? You might be making a bit of a leap there.
It is possible, however unlikely, that someone might have a different opinion about a car from you without that making them a "bitter pair of individuals"? Or are people only allowed to dislike this car if they can afford it? Do we need to submit our latest tax returns before being able to present a negative opinion on a car?

I don’t like Urus and would never buy one. But I wouldn’t think to judge those that do as being insecure or compensating! Sounds like mr tr3a and his wife have issues His wife saw a car and didn't like it, then was amazed at how expensive it was. Again. The car is awful and not to my taste but I would not dream of judging those that do. Rather weird and irrational, hence my conclusion it is bitterness

I consider myself a petrolhead, but the best word I can use to describe these (from the manufacturer's perspective) Urus', Bentaygas, DBXs etc is...... cynical.
And just a bit obnoxious, really. Sorry.
Nice little earners though so what do I know.

I want to drive a nice car daily.
A 2 seat sports car.... when would I drive that?
That's why I sold my 488 and got a V12 Lusso and why the perfect car for me would probably be a purosangue.
All I do is work, go gym, spend time with family. You don't have time to go for drives as you are working and spend time with family in your time not working
So these are perfect
When I had my 488 I would use it once a month if that, and it felt a waste to commute to work
I think that is the shift in society that many may have missed, which is that the 30-55 working age bracket was historically skint as everything being earned was paying off the mortgage, the school fees, building the pension and just easing children. People generally had to wait until 60 to have cleared all those obligations and have the free money to indulge in a silly car, by which time a 2 seater was perfect. But that traditional scenario generally ended back at the turn of the century and higher salaries and greater opportunities delivered sufficient income to many 30-55s to be able to not just cover all the responsibilities but to have excess left over to bin on toys. Said toys being 2 seaters were pointless as you were still working all hours and when you could go out it was with 3 people and a dog in tow. So what in the early days was catered for by the tiny number of fast estates grew into supercar fast, if not faster SUVs. Cars capable of all the family duties but also capable of that supercar performance fix when the window of opportunity arose.
They're popular because they are bloody useful and fill a very clear niche. One that began with Chevy engines in Range Rovers, on to Quattro engines in estate cars and now whalloping V8s into SUVs, finally merging the advantages of both a 4x4 and an estate all with super car performance. They make perfect sense.
