If you throw enough ridiculous aero at something it will start cornering relatively fast - regardless of what is powering it - but this shows acutely that it can't run away from the fundamental weight issue of an EV.
I like to see things at a system level.
The Lotus is one of the first of a bunch of ultimate road cars that can be entirely powered by the sun, and can be almost entirely recycled into another one when it's done its time.
A pathway to end the relentless digging up stuff and burning it.
Yes, there is a front end hit to dig more stuff up, but at least we've started to stop burning it.
The Mercedes-AMG One is not that car.
I appreciate that comment is instantly going to draw derision and pigeon-hole me as an eco-whatever.
Regardless I see it as a new chapter in how cars feature in our lives for the next 100 years.
The early cars in this chapter are compromised, they're not for everyone, but the positive thing is, they now exist.
Put simply, I think that is a good thing.
It is not going well for "drivers", Regs making them quieter eventually ending in the silence of an EV and then perhaps even autonomous so no actual driving required! Utter ste for the majority on here and yes by that I mean that the EV fans amongst us are small in number albeit vocal wink

It's not the fastest EV...because that's the ID.R
As far as publicity stunts go this is bit of a miss (dare i say typically Lotus).....however the lap is mighty impressive
Yep Ph does it again

EV cars will undoubtedly be a big part of our future but just not this type of thing (well, not for years yet).
There just isn't the appetite from buyers - just look at the Taycan sales and residuals.
Uh not this dross again... you know Porsche have sold almost 150 000 Taycans right?. Fwiw at 3 years 4S residuals almost identical to comparables like an M5 too except of course cost almost nothing to run over the same time

I wonder how many very fast laps people watching this and saying its "boring" and "dull as ditch water" have actually ever done. Not many to none I suspect. With track legal exhausts, a helmet and ear plugs you can't hear much even in the most glorious sounding ICE. Nor do you want to for more than 5 minutes. The in car here if fking mental. Turn the sound off if you must but it's flipping great.

To answer one of the posts earlier; yes even in the last 20 years the NS has got much smoother and better surface. Its certainly faster that it was 40+ years ago.

How many would have sold without the tax incentives in this country. They are having a mighty struggle right now even with 100% tax write off.

I drove a Taycan Turbo S last week, mind blowingly, breathtakingly fast but after 10min the novelty had worn off. Would take a base Panamera V6 over it no lie.

Because of the synthesised engine sound?

Have you heard the V6 being nailed from outside? I was mildly shocked, it's louder than the 911 Turbo and quite a pleasant sound, plus the interaction of the gearbox etc.

While not taking away from the wheelmanship behind recent fast laps, including this Evija's, the changes in the track over the past couple of decades highlights just how majestic Stefan Bellhof’s fastest lap was.

I've loved trackdays but I've been left in no doubt that my skill level is sub-mediocre. hehe It's worth highlighting that getting anywhere near this list fastest laps deserve acclaim, especially given the weight handicap of their enormous testicles. wink

Only makes the AMG time more impressive in my opinion. Finding ten seconds with double the power, slicks and a dry track seems a bit weak!

Not dross my friend, it’s a reality.
Lotus still haven’t sold all the 130 Evija’s after over two years of trying.
As for the Taycan, a novelty for the early adopters, tax incentives also played a big part as did dealers insisting customers wanting a GT car allocation buy a Taycan or two…

If you are disputing this then you really do have your head in the sand.

Let’s see how well the new Taycan sells shall we.

And if you are trying to sell yours then I understand why you’re so touchy.

I’m truly sorry (not sorry) biggrin

Big fast new cars depreciate like a brick. Funny how everyone flapping about it are those "with a friend" who apparently have never bought a big fast new car before. Not trying to sell mine and when I do it will be to get a new one, unless anyone comes up with something comparable and better but the way fasr ICE is going I doubt it.
