How big is it? I'm used to all EVs being about the size and weight of a Range Rover, so I expect this is the same?

Wish they'd stop with the battery nonsense and start pushing alternative fuels for cars like this.

HIF Global, who aim to become the world's largest producer of e-fuel have an ambitious target to supply 5 million cars worldwide by 2035.
Out of 1.5 billion cars...
Less than 0.5% of cars.
I think it's highly unlikely that an entry level sports car will be at the front of the queue.

Why on earth do ppl keep referencing an MX5 against a car 4530mm long? With over twice the “power”, it’s a daft comparison.
I want to like it, I do like it. It’s vastly better looking than any generation of Boxster, so that’s a good start. As to how it “drives”, I don’t really give a damn these days. I care far more about how it rides, that is the crucial bit. I wish it came with 18” wheels, so could have more sidewall, but well it is what it is these days.
It’s almost certainly looking like this will be my next company car.

IMHO the comparisons to MX5s are because the overall design language of this car is clearly intended to look like front engine/rear drive. Dimensions are very similar to F type.
It's pretty, it has some theatre about it, it's dragstrip fast, it will be something of a bargain on SS schemes. They'll sell loads, though not sure many will be to private buyers.

You'd think they would have found room for a truly capacious "frunk" under the bonnet.

Not really. MG were breaking national and international racing and performance records decades before Porsche were born.

We're more or less on the same page. If it's a heavy car with skinny tyres and "sports" suspension it could be a recipe for misery on our pot-holed roads. Needs to driven in the real world before getting your wallet out.

I doubt it will sell well here… too expensive to be a fun toy like an MX5, not in same league as Porsche etc

Plus not exactly a fleet option, still something different

Given how snobbish the UK market is I'd usually agree, but for now it really has no direct competition so i think they'll sell a decent number.

To some extent the UK market is snobbish, but looks at the sales figures of Kia, Hyundai, MG and Dacia. There are a huge number of people that aren't too bothered.

Brilliant, seriously.

I would consider one as a fun and totally different alternative to my GRY.

Never had an electric car, and generally not that keen, but this looks terific inside and out.

Never had a proper convertible, but this looks nice for those 3 days of sunshine we get a year.

And something comfortable to cruise along motorway in for commutes, something the GRY is not good at.

Could be the first electric car, that people buy with their heart and not just their head. Bravo, Chinese MG!

Gross weight of a 2025 M4 is 2205Kg so not dissimilar to the GMW of the MG

I think it'll do quite well, personally, while still naturally being a niche model and not selling 10,000's a year in UK.

Not really much competition to this on the market, and if you're a single bloke or girl and have a choice of stuff on a company car list and can charge at home, why not have a roadster which will look good, (probably) be good to drive, and cost peanuts to run.


While it's easy to turn your nose up at new "MG" somehow being an affront to the badge, the reality is SAIC have bothered to invest into a sports car that's at least of its time, and are now building very decent cars (after the initial market entries of the tragic 6, 3 and 5)


I've not driven a modern MG myself, but know plenty of people in the industry who have, and by all accounts, the driving dynamics and chassis set up of things like the MG4 is excellent, and a differentiator vs. other (even European) brands.

So they're continuing with the tradition of genuine driving fun in its segment + bothering to offer a 2 seater sports car and a soft top when everybody else is canning them.

I'd say that's pretty "MG", and as a brand, I think they're doing a lot of things right, that is very much not in contradiction with their sporting heritage.


With this and the incoming Boxster, finally a bit of a renaissance for the 2 seater sports car in the new world... Can only be a good thing.

A long time ago I landed a Ford Fusion courtesy car while my company Mondeo was in for service, and ever since then I partly base my car buying decisions on what the crappiest courtesy car I could end up with if it had to go in the dealer for work. My logic seems to have served me well since.

MG Cyberster = MG3

Plusses:
- EV sportscar that doesn't look like an electric BMW monster
- decent price given the competition
- Clean air and saving the planet (at least in your city)

Negatives:
- name is silly, should be MG-E as said before
- scissor electric doors.. better read the instruction manual before you are in an accident and trying to open the door manually with a dead battery
- some design features not so good (e.g. rear side and rear lights)
- video game cockpit: not for me , the only screen I need is for my GPS; the rest, physical buttons please...

No arm rests, high road noise (tyres and lack of sound deadening), poor stereo (but OK just not great) and stiff suspension - all things that make it great for its main purpose, ragging around back roads and country lanes. GRY does it, but it is certainly not where it is best, and for me is its biggest weakness!
