The quoted mpg in this article seems wrong for the CO2. Do they perhaps mean 29mpg?

It's a good looking car, and should sell well. 2 tonnes though!

It could be a 4 door saloon and weigh less

As a petrol lover, the latest gen engines and increased weight don't do a thing for me and I can see the attraction of EVs more and more.

It's a shame that it's the way the world has gone. Maybe by design to ease people into EVs given the trade offs.

Thankfully there's alot of 2nd hand metal.
I cant imagine Mercedes would go to all the trouble of developing more ICE cars to make EVs seem better.

Be interesting to see whether there is more scope in that engine (M256) it looks suspiciously similar spec wise to the BMW B58, and those make good power as standard and the sky is the limit for tuning, The B58 spawned the S58 in the M3/4 etc, so wouldn't seem impossible for Mercedes to do similar. There are S58s making 1000 bhp, not suggesting that Mercedes would go like some mad tuner special but the point being that the scope is likely there to produce 500/600 bhp, if they can get 400 odd out of a 2 litre 4, they can get that from a 3 litre straight six, if they wanted to.

Maybe consign the current C63 to the history books as seems unloved, usher in a 550/600 bhp mild hybrid six cylinder C63 ?
I love electric vehicles, but the thought of a 6 cylinder AMG just seems so wrong. (Yes aware of C32 AMG)

I think MB should just forget the 6cyl altogether and find a way to have a small capacity V8 hybrid , or just forget it and go full EV instead.

The C63 AMG is just a tragic affair all round. And I would much rather buy a 6 cyl BMW M Car over an AMG 6 cyl.
A small capacity V8 sounds great in theory, but the optimal capacity for thermodynamic efficiency is 0.5l / cylinder, hence it’s unlikely to happen, and a 3 litre straight six would probably suit best for a C63 at current times.

This car does seem like a more welcome return to what a baby amg should be like, and feels a bit like Mercedes coming back with their tail between their legs over the C63 E. handsome-ish beast too, but crazy weight.

I'm with you with that as well.

I do still find myself properly lusting after this though anyway. I think it looks great for sure. cool
I 3rd the motion, looks like a very nice thing to have on the drive but the weight is out of control so it's a no from me.

Great looking car - matt(e) paint and black wheels too, but the interior? Just too much - I sit in front of a big screen all day, I don't want one plonked in my car too.

That dashboard is such a mess, only Mercedes could try and go minimalist with two screens, yet end up with a Poundland vodka bar vibe instead.

Dont think that makes much/any difference, estates are generally not that much heavier either, as all the weight is in the engine, gearbox, suspension, batterys, brakes, exhaust, HVAC system and whatever, being a coupe you still need near enough as much metalwork and glass as a saloon, you save maybe on some door mechanisms.

Yet again…..that they’re launching it in matt (or matte if you’ve bought into the pretentiousness) with black wheels tells you a lot about its target market.
Why Mercedes persist with this I don't know.

The brief matte paint bubble burst ages ago.

The front seats are constrained by the center console. The screens are pretty though I wonder if they are worth the effort. It seems all German manufacturers are using seldom used technology to defend high margins, sometimes with confused results (VW). And what's with the B pillar? Must have been on previous MB Cs...

Except the car is in ( w206 C63) is laden with heavy electric motors and batteries, passively off-setting any weight savings from the 2.0. This is why all versions of the C63 E are well over tons, which is ridiculous. Don't forget on sustained full acceleration, the E charge quickly depletes, then you're left with a about 470 bhp and much less torque, with the same massive weight. The V8 205 obviously sounded night and day and better, 200 kg lighter and much less complex. There's a reason Mercedes are not selling any C63Es. There hasn't been a single glowing review and its clear why.
The HO version of the Stellantis I6 gives 540hp and that ends up in all manner of mid-market US pickups/suvs - so 180hp/lt in 2024 clearly doesn't imply moonshot materials and stealth tech tolerances.

As M256 is, as close as such things can be, an M264 with +2 cylinders, in theory all the tools are to hand to make a hot M256; whatever makes M139 from M264 can be applied to make a 650+hp I6. Anyway, can ≠ will, pipedreams.

I am curious as to how this car and cars like this are going to fit into the EU regulation whereby cars cannot exceed the speed limit at all. No new car, in this country at least, will be able to go over 70mph. It seems that Volvo understands this much better and have severely reduced the potential top speed of their cars (because it is all pointless in this modern regulated world) but the Germans just don’t get it!

You can turn it off. At the moment…

Yep… plenty of info on Google explaining Intelligent Speed Assistance and how it works. The drive can turn it off but it will reactivate the next time the car is started.

Matt black aside I quite like the external appearance but the inside is way too fussy. I do like the idea of a straight six coupe but my current obsession is Harry’s recent vid on the Litchfield M2.

Nice, but was hoping the central screen would be a bit bigger....wonder if can you option something like a 50" widescreen like in a Tesla so you can play Warthunder while on the move?

All show and not enough go, the CLE 53 has the muscular looks of an AMG but is let down by an underwhelming "series" motor rather than having the character and grunt of the hand assembled V8 it needs along with the handling dynamics of a tail happy AMG. Missed opportunity to take the fight to BMW.

I read the Auto Express review of it yesterday, and they were absolutely slating the engine in it as well. I thought it was a bit harsh to be honest, but I guess that a straight 6 will never be as good as the old V8 in comparison though in fairness.

Plenty of almost-no-miles, one-year-old C63 coupes hanging around the classifieds, with their V8s on show, for no more money than this one.

Some of them are even in the same rug seller matt black as this press car.

Who’s seriously looking at the hybrid one, apart from those primarily concerned with BIK for company cars?

Not even remotely excited by this. Its almost a pretend AMG. As an E63S owner, I still haven't forgiven MB for putting an in-line 6 in the next E63, rather than the V8. It may be more of the same, but the M157 was one of the best V8s ever made. MB may be loosing the plot, as if a 2 litre C63 wasn't advance warning. I'll be hanging on to my E63S.
