Er, I thought pops and bangs were caused by leaky exhausts, allowing air to be sucked in on over-run, igniting unburnt gases in 'sorst. No?

That certainly helps, though the primary cause is cylinders still being fuelled and yet not firing on the overrun. That's where the unburnt fuel comes from, and it naturally has some oxygen with it, so it can still burn if ignited... the extra oxygen from a leak may help form a more ignitable mixture, that's where leaks come in to it.

I put injectors that were 3x bigger and before it the car was mapped it would backfire like anti under full load.

I'm talking huge HUGE bangs.

Wow, that is quite a thread revival. Why would anyone want a diesel to pop or bang?
