I’d like to know where my old car is

KL02 AVK it started out life as a Vauxhall demo car so had every single option tucked apart from sunroof! I bought it from Bournemouth to use as a project car! 3yrs later it was on the road with a z20let 2 litre turbo engine with 300bhp at the wheels it was very lightweight but still had creature comforts and was blisteringly quick it had lightweight boot bonnet and poly windows recaro pole position seats with recaros lighter aluminium brackets and it tipped the scales at under a tonne so power to weight was huge! It also had custom 325mm brembos on it! And it was built by me and my cousin many night spent at his mot station working on it which annoyed the missus somewhat but she understood it was my passion

Missus fell pregnant and wanted to buy a house so I stripped it down to a bare shell and sold it to a well known guy called Andy speck who put a Subaru engine in it and 4 wheel drive (search corsaru on YouTube)

Rly rly miss it to me it looked well and went well I’d spent 12k on parts including the car and sold it all for 17k making a nice profit (seats were sold to a mr sharwood on here for his lotus iirc)

I rly do miss the car a hell of a lot!

It's on SORN, MOT expired 04 Oct 2016. Also still registered as a 1796cc.

Some cars are "pre SORN" ,they were off the road before SORN existed and so did not need to be SORNed.
Thanks for the heads up. Was 1989 pre SORN? If so, my Dad's RS2000 is for sure SORN as it has never been scrapped or involved in an accident. But my Dad's Subaru Impreza Turbo's insurance and MOT ended in 2011, I'm certain SORN existed then. The car hasn't been scrapped.

I want my E36 318is back.

Stupidly sold it 15 months ago. Sellers remorse from the second it went.

Reg is R979 GHT.

I think it went to the Stoke on Trent area.

Would love to know what happened to my old V6. Guessing it's changed reg as I can't find it on tax.

I miss it hugely
If you remember the build number, you could ask on v6clio.net I think the registrar there is probably aware of a fair chunk (if not the majority) of them.

He confirmed mine was still around after it turned up for sale on here a few months back. It was nice to see that it had still been looked after my ownership smile Unsurprisingly the dealer it had just ended up at had priced the car speculatively high compared to the current market.
I think it was no. 47 not 100% sure though. I was a mber on v6clio back when I had it but I'm sure there's a few to sign up. there's no way I would do it now, couldn't afford one even if I was tempted. Almost double what I sold it for 😭

SORN was introduced in January 1998. So after that date, any car where the tax expired should have been SORNed or scrapped. Any car that was already untaxed prior to Jan 1998 did not require SORN to be applied or renewed.

In theory, if the VED is allowed to expire without the car either being declared scrapped or on SORN, then the registered keeper should receive a nasty letter with an invoice in it - there are penalties for not doing either.

I found my E36!!!

Cuerrently on SORN because the owner, who is 19, had a minor bump & now can not afford the insurance.

I am told that the insurance company wrote off the car because they said it wasn’t worth repairing.

So he bought the car back, put it on SORN & it now sits at his mums.

Currently waiting for photos of the damage after which I might make him an offer.

Or not.

Interesting. Makes no sense at all, not scrapped, but not declared SORN? Unless the info hasn't been updated to show the car is SORN. There are cars about that aren't declared SORN and sat in people's gardens and land. What's this all about? Info not updated or someone decided to ignore stating the car is SORN?

May be wise to make an offer. Depending on how bad the damage is. It'll be better for the owner anyway, its sat doing nowt and he can't afford the insurance.

There is a 3rd option, if the car is yellow slipped (transferred to trade) it shows as untaxed but no further action is taken as the car has no keeper.

I sold a Ferrari last year that went to Europe but I transferred the yellow slip to the auction house to remove any future liability. Looking at the reg it just shows as untaxed.

Cheers. Makes sense. Most likely happened. Once found a Sierra Cosworth sat on someones drive without any tax whatsoever.

Hey guys. I'd absolutely love to know what happened to my brother's Volvo S40. It's reg was NH53 LMY. He bought it on 24/02/2017. He owned it until 27/09/2017.

He didn't own it for long, but i love that car. It was a 1.9 D (115). S model. Official registration year is 2004. I'd love to see what's happened to it, because I've searched for it before and got a result saying it was taxed and MOT'd. But now i can't find anything, so I'd really like to know what's happened to it if possible.

Thanks in advance

Someone probably stuck a private plate on it.

Yeah that's one thought going through my mind. Because I can't find any details for it on any insurance databases, or any tax or MOT details anywhere. So i either thought it'd been written off or was on a private plate, but doubted it was a private plate cos it wasn't in the best condition when my brother sold it.

G199 LGF. Brother's S2 Escort RS Turbo which he had for a short while in 2009. Looks to have been SORN ever since and changed hands a couple of times. Is anyone aware of its whereabouts?

The RS owners club refused to even tell me if it was on their register and nothing back on facebook forums. I can understand not giving an address or name out on the former but if it is with a member it would be nice to know/to relay a message!

Interested to know where/how my old Impreza is now. I was the first UK owner after it was imported back in 1999, and I sold it in 2003. It still exists according to DVLA, although it looks to have been SORNed for the winter (MOT expired in December). Reg number is M320SWP. Yes, I know my private plate was illegally spaced... smile
