I just checked the starting grid for the 1963 Bathurst production sports car race, with a field of the above, & you know, there's not a rollover bar in sight. We didn't use seat belts either. You couldn't do "le mans starts" [do any of you know what I'm talking about] with seat belts.
Has the British spirit gone to the same place as its car industry.


Good to see the bulldog spirit is alive and kicking.

Even if it is in Oz!

Not a bad car though. The world needs more lightweight cars with moderately pwerful, eco-friendly engines that still go as fast as a heavy car with a monster of an engine ( Ferrari F430: 27L/100km in one road test!!!). Wait did I just say that? Oh screw it, I'll just have a Zonda...

I drive an Atom which doesn't even have aero screens with a helmet on it is fine without goggles etc are fine untill you get hit by grit or a bee wasp... then you put a helmet back on.

I would think that with 270bhp, if it has 'similiar performance' to an Elise, then it can't be that light?

They are quoting 3.4 seconds to 60mph, and a 160mph top end, so considerably quicker than the Elise.

I would reiterate, though, that this appears to be a computer concept only.

I'm willing to bet that none of the technology and fancy ideas being quoted have actually been built and tested (flip up wing mirrors? I can see the EU type approval guys loving that one!). Everything you see on the website is just ideas by a bunch of ex-students, until they get a prototype running, type approved and ready for road testing by the magazines.

Not just in Oz ... I was at Prescott Hillclimb yesterday and the Bugattis and Austin 7s were competing without roll bars or seatbelts. And setting serious times in atrocious conditions. I've seen Morgan 3 wheelers there, ditto.

Was at Prescott last year (or was it the year before?) when a Bugatti Type 13 rolled over right in front of me.

The driver's helmet ended up crushed between the track and the bolster fuel tank at the extreme rear of the car.

Not a pleasant thing to see, until I realised that the driver's head wasn't still inside it - fortunately, it had been torn off his head and he emegerged from underneath the car almost unscathed, but that was a very early Bugatti turning over at little more than running pace. If it had been a Type 35, he would have been dead, no question.

You get a little less blase about running cars without rollover bars when that sort of thing happens ten feet in front of you!

Sadly, from many of the responses on here, it seems you are only partly correct. Only some PHers; it seems that quite a few are pretty clueless when it comes to British motoring heritage.

Yes, the car is only a concept at the moment, but all cars have to start off as one, and they have only been working on it for about a year or so.

I think they deserve a lot of respect; most students on the degree course at Coventry just draw pictures of cars for their final year projects, very few actually take on the task of putting it into production.
