I claim the Fiat Panda Land Speed Record (so far)... Managed 102 mph indicated on a very long downhill M-Way section in a Panda 900 hire car. I would've been utterly stuffed if I'd have had to stop within 2 miles and the engine, sans revlimiter, was probably never the same again.

New claimant to the title! Hit 105 ish (off the clock) on a blat down the world famous Haldon Hill (before the scamera) in our old 1000S (top of the range ya know....)

Also an indicated 114 in the Uno 45fire, obviously the sleek wind tunnel tested shape comes into play

And 115 ish in a 1982 Triumph Acclaim 1.3 3 speed semi-auto at the redline (blew head gasket then..)

All in kph of course guvnor

Ah, Halden Hill, that brings back memories. As a Student I could just about get 100 down it in my Morris Marina 1.8. It used to shake the car to death though. I used to have to screw the rear view mirror and radio back in when I got home. I did it once with passengers and when the car started shaking they got the panics. I told them that we were going through the sound barrier and we'd be fine when we got to the other side.

Just under 120mph (so said the clock) in a 1.0 Nova (4 Speed) (Carb) with 2 people in (Both weighing in over 16 stone )

This was not going down hill either! How you ask? Drafting a Ford Scorpio Sapphire which was racing a new Audi TT (Orig just came out at the time).

I couldnt belive it, bolts, nuts were starting to come lose in the car. Nasty vibration and i just couldnt but say "I cant keep it together captain!" lol

Car died 2 days later, think the carb died or something lol

Oh, mate tried doing the same in his 1.2 and his conrod came through the engine block

90mph two-up in a 1972 VW Camper, downhill, in neutral on the A30 in Cornwall. Very scary.

For those in Teeside - going under the bridge on the A174 near Ormesby...an indicated 115mph in all of F reg Chavalier (1.4), R reg Mk 1 clio (1.2) and a new-ish 206 (1.4).

99.99999999...in a new shape 1.0 corsa (was fast cos it was a hire car..) - but could I hell get the ton.

The A174 was shut that day...

Funny to see that a few other people have noticed how time goes slower on the A19, allowing for more mph than on the M1 / A1(m).

111mph "indicated" from a Citroen Xsara Picasso....on a very long downhill nuts

Beaten you I'm afraid at 119 in a diesel one, my gf and I were bouncing to try and hit 120 down a steep hill but it wouldnt have it just sat at 119!

that must have been fun with the huge digital speedo thumbup

Speaking of the huge digital speedo, the first of the triple-digits seems capable of rendering a "2"...either Citroen are hopelessly optimistic that a Picasso will hit 200mph, or 200kph/124mph is very much within reach

Mine has to be in my first car.

105 mph in my 1988 1.4 Ford Escort, with huge mileage and probably a maximum of 60 of it's original 75 BHP left. And my God was it screaming!

just remembered!

my first car, a knackered renault 5 campus on a G plate...I got 112mph on the speedo on the driff to scarborough road on the long narrow downhill straight just before Foxholes ....while taking a picture of said deed and looking through the viewfinder of the disposable camera I was using....hehe

I might try and dig that out

Holy thread revival!

Mine, that i remember:

99mph indicated in my 1988 Renault 5 1.2 TR. Could never manage to get it to show over the ton. Clearly wasn't trying hard enough.

106mph indicated in my 1993 Fiesta 1.1 LX (it was the cat model that only had 50bhp). That was down a hill in Scotland somewhere on the way to a house party near Glasgow.

117mph indicated in my Citroen ZX TD.s. I had 3 of these and two would top out at that indicated speed. Didn't try with the other one.. I sat at 117 for a period of time in one of them (not very long really) (again on way back from Scotland) and there was a massive CLANG!! After i had finished pooing in my pants, i pulled over and the bolts had sheared off on the exhaust manifold. The rest of the drive back was done at a considerably noisier and slower pace.

Erm...what else...

bikes.

66mph (head down) on my 2004 Honda CG125. I'm pretty sure that was all it have to give!

A 125cc scooter i owned more recently would (apparently) pass 60mph in much more comfort than than the CG did.

i topped the clock in a 1100 mk1 fiesta y plate the clock reads 100 ( yes i was going downhill and it took two miles to get there ) not bad for a car sitting on 135 r12 remoulds
Managed similar in my mk2 1.1 fiesta first car. Gradient assist 110mph with the engine screaming (no rev counter)
