I'd rather not see the police spend my tax pounds on a publicity stunt featuring a lambo, i prefer it go towards putting more trafpol on the roads and bobbies on the beat.
which is exactly what they are doing - i may have confused the issue by adding up that piccie but underneath was a list of sponsors which i also took a piccie off and will host it up later

Ta for the correction and i'm glad my tax punds are being spent in the way i mentioned, phew!!. I would love to know who did the sponsoring though, just so i can boycott them for being involved in such a numpty scheme, Lambo being one of them

Serious question.. was the London Safety Camera Partnership one of the sponsors?
In which case speeding drivers paid towards it.

No, and if you have a chat with Lambocop he will share his own views with you on that one.
tis what my ears are waiting for

He's seriously one of the good guys and i count him as one of my good friends - he came to Le Mans this year as my wing man and endured what can only be described as the best baptism of fire an officer serving in the law could undertake - i even let him drive my TVR - albeit a bit slower than i was
Probably like many others, i was drawn to the stand at Earls Court by the presence of the Lambo, and spent quite a while chatting with the guys there.
I simply don't see what is wrong with the use of a fantastic car to draw punters' attention, provided the message is clear. It isn't their car, nothing was funded by tax payers, some of the guys on the stand even gave up their spare time to be there, talking to young and old alike, presenting a very approachable face of the law.
The message that i took away was:
neither speed (in itsself) nor fast cars kill people - irrsponsible drivers do that, regardless of the "power" of the car.
In no way did they, or the presence of the Lambo on the stand advocate irresponsible speeding, and it is a great shame when someone as obviously passionate about cars and safe driving as Lambo Cop is, should get pilloried for his efforts.
If only there were more police officers with his attitude and approach, we would all be able to enjoy our driving much more, and in greater safety.
Lambo Cop, ignore the detractors, it is clear that you have a great deal of well earned support on here, keep up the good work

Bad form allowing the illegally-spaced number plate...
What made me laugh about that was at the MPH show, there was a guy on the police stand who was showing dodgy numberplates and why you would get done for them!
The car did look nice though. Also had a sit in the BMW 5 Series Estate patrol car and the Discovery (in the front I might add!). Always nice to see what you're up against!!
Nobody is slating Lambocop for his hardwork and efforts or having a personal dig. Anyone who's been around PH for a while knows he's a good guy and that he's on our side, supporting the tunnel runs etc etc.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for the guy and have said so in my posts earlier in this thread.
As others have said is the mixed and contradictory message its sends out that I and others object to, for the sake of pulling a few punters to a stand. If its only aim is to draw in the crowds then sure it works and from what I've read so far this is its only purpose. As said, given current feeling amongst motorist though I'd say a different approach is required, one not based on gimics.
Just like a thousand E's stamped with HM Constabulary logo on at a drugs prevention meet. Or a Met labelled uzi at a gun convention. The day that happens maybe I'll get the point.

So...according to the above poster...they have done it all with sponsorship from the following companies: all i can see after that is "Traffic Operational Command Unit". Are they the sponsors or is that meant to be on the bottom of the poster, in which case who does sponsor it, or if it is the Traffic Operational Command Unit and it's part of the police then isn't that paid for by us through taxes etc..., and thereby sponsored by us? Or have i got all this completely wrong?
I'd much rather pay taxes to see police lambo's than pay for benefit fraudsters!
I'd much rather pay taxes to see black vans picking up undesirables and taking them for a drive out to the woods

Lancashire had a 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth reg K999COS. Didn't get robbed AFAIK, but was retired.

Reminds of a story years ago when a police force in an area suffering from a large number of joy riders, bought a Sierra Cosworth in order to catch them, but within a month it was stolen, joyridden around and then torched.
I aslo recall seeing a Police Esprit in Hamspstead years ago.

hey mate just searched my escort cossies number plate on yahoo and this topic on this forum was the only result!
are you sure that the police saff was that number plate cos thats my car!
shes a late 92 escos and the plate was on it from new, anything else you remember about the saff would be great.
whoever bought my car as new must have found and used that plate. would be cool for my car to have an interesting history before it was even built!

I am pretty sure is was K999COS. It used to sit at Broughton roundabout a lot where the M55 joins the M6. If your car was that plate from new then I doubt this one was K999COS - just memory playing tricks. Perhaps K99COS or K999COP I'm not sure. It was in use for a good while so I can't see it havng been ditched and then registered to you new. Very odd.

Positive. It was a fully marked up 4WD Sapphire Cosworth in white. K reg and as I remeber K999COS, but now looking at the thread, perhaps K99COS. I distinctly remembering commenting on the plate to a mate on the school bus. I passed the car in that location numerous times on my way into school, usually with two cops sat in it watching the world go by. If is wasn't Lancashires, I can't think who elses it might have been. They wouldn't get a loaner would they...? No idea, but definitely seen it several times albeit many moons ago now.
I'm pretty sure Lancashire never had any Cosworths. They certainly wouldn't have had one with such a reg number on it as they are normally all consecutive reg numbers. Are you not thinking of another force which had a Cosworth with a reg that started F999? I have seen promo pics of that one.

I have made enquiries and apparently police in Preston at that time were using Rover 827's. There were possibly some very late Rover SD1's knocking about at that time also. I can only think that the Motorway unit (separate from the local traffic police) where testing a Ford demo around that time (however they rarely keep demos more than a couple of weeks as they tend to go round a number of forces).
