Villain 1 - "I'm being chased by the filth in a Lambo, what shall i do?"

Villain 2 - "Head for speed bumps or keep going for 20 mins and the piece of shit will break down or blow up"

Rather they spent it on a Lamborghini than Scameras come to think of it.

Not funded with public money? Are taxpayers not members of the public then?

A publicity stunt? Never! I can exclusively reveal the Met will put it on their stand alongside the Noble Nicked, Pagani ThinkyourbloodySchumacher and, of course, Ferrari Jobsworth. And you'll thrill at the sight of their new-issue motorcycle ... the Guzzi Gatso.

I don't get why they do this kind of thing as a publicity stunt. So it's a really fast, desireable car and they've stickered it up like a meat wagon. What am I supposed to go away thinking after seeing it? "Ooh, I really respect the police now and think they're one of us petrols heads. I won't speed seeing as they've got a Lambo."

I've worked in PR / marketing for 10 years and I just don't geddit!

When they do a liveried up police porsche or ferrari, lambo etc, abroad, you know for a fact the car will actually be used for it's intended purpose...catching high speed villains, and i've seen them on my travels abroad. However, over here though it's just a load of old bullsh1t and B0ll0x. What's the bloody point?? We'll have a police tank next!!

What the police need is a couple of these all liveried up.

www.type-25.com/

They'd pull in the crowed in at any show they went to and would be a pretty good tool for catching real crooks*.

You cant be very good at it then

Surely one of the reasons for PR and Marketing is to get people to either buy a product, raise awareness of a product or get people talking about a product.

OK, so maybe the Met Traffic units are not a product, but you cannot disagree that this has;

A) Got people talking about it
&
B) its raising the profile of the Met Police.

One of the reasons this works is because it attracts petrol heads and others to the stand (How many other LP640's will be at MPH !!) and gets them interacting with the guys that do the job on a daily basis - i cannot believe so many of you are being so negative about this !!

A Lambo cop car?rolleyes I'd have thought something more understated and cost effective like a Monaro VXR 500 would be a more appropriate choice, albeit not as quick. I could imagine one of those with cop written up the side.

Aussie and Kiwi police have souped up Holdens as police cars so why not over here. I think that not only sounds like a sensible idea but a great marketing tool for Vauxhall as it just looks a more realistic prospect, and i bet Monaro's look the nuts painted up.

Any self-respecting petrolhead would look at the lambo though as a great car anyway, wether liveried or otherwise. However, imho all that the police stickers and the thought behind the marketing campaign does is simply cheapen and ridicule the car, in the knowledge that's it's never going to be real. That kind of cheap marketing doesn't turn me on in any way shape or form and the general concensus on this forum seems to basically echo that kind of sentiment.

Very true, but why dont they get something british?

Such as? An Atom? A Caterham?

DB9. And before anyone mutters the usual nonsense, it's still made in Newport Pagnell I believe and therefore British.

Of course, the Italian police really do have a Lambo..

DB9 is made in Gaydon, along with the AMV8. Only the Vanquish is still assembled in NP.

Still British though. Well, sort of (American owned, German chief, Dutch designer, blah blah etc).

this forum is for people that like cars? wouldn't you like a lamborghini?

or in your experience has your LP640 really let you down recently?

honestly, i just don't get it. sometimes it's like people have something against these cars and hate them just because they think they will never own one. thats doesn't make sense.
