Because for some reason, it's now the manufacturers responsibility to protect cretins who walk infront of cars, and to protect them they have to look high at the front.
Now if we just told people not to stand where cars go without looking first, which would save time, money and vast human resources, I have NO idea.

Don't care about what the top end is, if they can make a "modern" Pug pick up it's skirts and fly like my old 105hp 205gti then it's 50% a winner, now we have to see if it can handle like one, and that will be the most difficult and telling point.

I looked at one, got the seat in a position where I could comfortably reach the pedals and wheel but I had to streach forward to get the gear lever into 1st, so it's the same as the 206 in that sense and for that reason it was dismissed from my shortlist before I even drove it like the 206 GTi was a few years ago. Why do they insist on designing all their small cars for midgets?! I'm 6'1" which hardly makes me a giant!

how long will Peugoet be able to trade off the glories of the 205? Ok, you had the 106 and 306 GTi-6, which from all I've read were good cars, if not up to the 205 GTi. But then there was the 206 GTi, and the less said about the 307 the better. Wasn't the whole point of the 205 that it was light and nimble, and that's where it's greatness lay? Something that is bigger than the 306, and not to mention one of the ugliest cars on the road today, just doesn't do it for me Im afraid

Yep, the 206 isn't so nice. I'm 6ft and had problems in my girlfriends (got rid of the 206 thank god )... my main problem was a throttle that was so light and so high I got ankle ache in 10 miles of driving unless I just left it in top gear and wide open throttle
Secondly was the pedals were almost touching, so my narrow trainers were the only suitable footware I could use in it.

I felt the 207 I sat in was lots better, but it's easily as big as my 306, but you sit about 8-12 inches higher, the steering wheel is more tilted up like a bloody VW vans, and it just felt like an MPV, not a car!

Crappppiiioooo!

Maybe it's just me, but with that stupid grill I wouldn't even get as far as the showroom.

It'd be ok if it wasn't so bloody ugly!

Indeed. Its beer gut bonnet has started to hang over the top of the grille.

No wonder un-molested 80's and 90's hot hatches are fetching strong money when this is the future. I am off to scour e-bay for a mint R5 GT turbo...

I was almost interested in this car (for the wife, you understand) until I read the 'Correction' at the bottom.

Now I'm not.

OOOOOOOOH nice. In an ideal world we would never have to sell these cars, just stick them in the back of our massive garages! That looks a peach.

The last good pug after the legendary 205 gti was the little 106 Rallye.
This new generation is going in the right direction with the power and handling but can they sack the bodywork designer he's got some nipple obsession going on looking at those fog lights.

106GTi non sunroof / cloth interior is a good 'un. Although, when I had mine I was sure I was going to die even if I had the slightest bump. Fragile.

I know that, I meant because it is a diesel people wouldn't buy it. Diesels are shite.
