Err, I must be missing something, I dont understand why not just get a diesel instead? Or is this a petrol replacement for diesel?

Because its a diesel. Thats why.

[And, unusually for a relatively small engine (1598cc) we’re talking petrol here, not diesel.

I know that, I meant because it is a diesel people wouldn't buy it. Diesels are shite.

Here we go again......tumbleweed

Personally, i dont think it looks particularly sporting at all from the outside, the engine stats leave me feeling a little cold and that interior....

I think since the 205, Peugeot have lost their way with hot hatches. I think as the writer of the above article wrote "Its more like a warm hatch", i think i completly agree with that statement. There are much more exciting cars on the market for my money.

I assume you've never driven a 106 or 306 Rallye then? Both are hugely entertaining. My first car was a 205 and the 106 Rallye I had was the closest thing to the 205 experience.

But with each successive generation the focus is dulled.

The 205's closest spiritual successor is the 106 Gti really. Similar peak power, similar weights, very nice for track work with simple mods.

306 is a much bigger car really, and this 207 is even BIGGER again, so they are more about day to day than owning to drive alone...

I think it'll be a hot hatch still, but it depends what you want from your driving. Pure driving pleasure, or a fine day to day car that is also quite brisk and will thrill a little bit when you want it to. But you can't get both.
It's a sliding scale, and as time goes by the slider moves towards the day to day business it seems, with only people like Renault offering things like the Cup and Trophy Clio's that are anywhere near what the 205 Gti did (though their latest Clio is bigger and weighs more, so I wonder where the focussed version will end up, still nowhere near the Trophy or Cup172 I doubt)

Lets just hope Peugeot sell a drivers Gti, not a badge Gti, and make the 207 both ligher, naturally aspirated and focussed

Its not going to happen.

Modern hot hatches leave me cold. They are all overweight, with too much refinement and not enough involvement. Often, they are just too expensive as well. I've just got out of my clio 182 after a rapid drive out, and i can honestly say i was shaking and sweating with the adrenaline, such was the thrill of this drive out. But having driven several modern hot hatches, most just dont do it for me.

Good point, i didn't think of the Rallye, never driven it but my cousin had one, apparantly a good car. I suppose i was using the as a benchmark in a sense, and anyway it doesn't matter where you draw the line, as long as it is before the 106 because they aren't brilliant anymore. Thats my opinion anyway.
