Kudos to Dink for pointing out this little gem. Sadly I could only nip across for the weekend but with a late train back it meant Anne and I could hang around until 5pm on Sunday (or until we were sure the Cobras were on top of things wink) Top event and we really enjoyed it!

Bad points: who chose that music? Spa Francorchamps must be where all the epically crap songs go to die biggrin Thank God for the roar of engines smile

Good points: everything else bow What a lovely little track, much trickier than it seems on the television. Such a relaxed atmosphere too. Really nice to be able to wonder around, hang out on the pit wall and get as close to the cars as you like. €15? When was the last time something cost only that in the UK? Safe to say I'll be back next year. Didn't take any photos other than a couple on the mobile just to show people back here what they're missing. Had the camera and laptop in the car all weekend but I was too busy looking at cars to bother with pictures biggrin

Nice to catch up with you guys eventually too - we cruised at 75 - 85 all the way there and must have walked past you loads of times without realising. My fault though - got the earlier train and thought I would park up at the first filling station to wait. Drove straight past the left turn and ended up filling up in Belgium, doh!

Have fun at the Ring,

Andy

Actually I didn't mind the music. The real music came from the engines anyway... smile

It was great indeed... And dirt-cheap too. Try that at the Nürburgring Oldtimer Grandprix! No way I'm going there anymore. Feels like a rip-off after being to the Six Hours. Next year we'll be there again!

Yeah it was a fantastic event. My favourite was hearing the Cobras and Corvettes. The GT40s were glorious but the deep base of the Cobras and Corvettes was just brilliant. As promised my car was ready today and I must admit to recreating the event for a few moments wink I miss the engine sounds bouncing off the pit walls already...

That would be nice! I'll try to come with the Morris next year.

One of my favourites, the 1954 Maserati A6GCS, driven by Belgian Nicolas d'Ieteren:

Just any pics would be good smile

Didn't drive myself, dad was in No. 50 DB4 in the 6 hour, although only managed half a lap before the car threw the towel in frown

Edited for the mistake of saying 6 hour, I meant the headline event that was the Spa 4 hours and 50 minute wink

Sorry... No pic of your dad's DB4.
What went wrong with the car?

What I have got is a pic of the car of winning Dutchman Hans Hugenholtz:

Enough DB's though:

Holy feck, my very first trackday experience: next to David Yu in his tweaked (biggest Brembo's I'd ever seen, changed rear-suspension, 570 brake hot-cammed 7 litre) Z06! All this on the most famous track of the world. Some maiden voyage!

Vid of a standard Vette:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62WfAYRcaHI

David pulled 1.27 G's, a personal record. I wasn't strapped into a 6-point harnas and i think I'd better done that. I really had to fix myself to stay in the seat. Megagrip and superwide Toyo's didn't slide at all, V8 hammering through the curve's with an easy 120 mph: that's 200 Kmh folks! On the straights I saw 160. We passed Griff's and bikes and Porkers like they were parked there . . . Feck me, when I got out I had to recover for an hour, sitting in the shade. A wonderfull day out though!

I think it was a grey DB4. If I'm right I think he damaged the cooling system of the car and lost a lot of fluid...
He was stopped in "Les Combes"...
Am I right ?

The weather at the weekend was just fantastic, the grids stellar, and the company in rude health.

I stuck my camera on the car of Julian Barter, HSCC class winnner in his TVR 3000M...

Here's a short section from qualifying, where he secured class pole (look for the Chevron B8s!):

And here are the first two laps of race 2, in which he finished 6th overall and first in class:

Enjoy!

This Cerbera I polish here for you
Aglow with its cool evening light
But shining at night, in Tunisia
Never did it shine so bright

The stars are aglow in the heavens
But only the wise understand
That shining at night in Tunisia
They guide you through the Belgium land

Words fail, to tell a tale
Too exotic to be told
Each nights a deeper night
In a world, ages old

The cares of the day seem to vanish
The ending of day brings release
Each wonderful night in Tunisia
Where the nights are filled with . . . well beers in our case.

Cheers all. Nicky, wonderfull to meet a tall girl who's into cars and jazz. You ticked my box.

Eric, good to meet. We'll set a Rotterdam date soon.

Got to the end of the Kemmel Straight, lighter than usual braking due to first lap traffic and one of the steering components gave up on the RHS.

Car went straight on and wheel did what it pleased. Fortunately, there was a slip road and he managed to get straight up it (hence stopped at Les Combes). The fluids were leaking where they took everything apart to take back to the pits for fixing.

The permutations of what could have happened if at full speed or if the car chose to spear off in another direction are scary, but fortunately, it was ok.

Got the car fixed, went to pick it up at the end of the race, it started on the button and drove back faultlessly frown
