It does sound like it was him, I'll never forget watching rallying with him in the scooby and racing against carlos saintz etc. the bloke was a genius, however lets not forget he probably died doing something he loved - I hope we're all so lucky.

RIP Colin beer

frown speechless..R.I.P. Colin, I remember getting Jimmy's autograph when he won the British rally championship a few years ago now and him introducing Colin as the future world champion. A sad, sad day indeed

RIP Colin.

A fearless and very talented driver, and not just on the rally stage.

Very experienced helicopter pilot, I remember him regularly flying his Enstrom in and out of Cumbernauld airfield years ago when I worked there.

Condolences to the McRaes.

WTF, people talking about it on a forum is the same as stopping a country for about a month now?

As has been said before, I can't see how it is not him based on the reporting so far.

RIP Colin, son and other passengers.

I can still remember his WRC championship win being a good celebration in the Student's Union.

RIP Colin, what a legend.

Saw him drive at Le Mans in 2004 and finish third in class on his first attempt with Rydell and Turner in the Prodrive 550.

Also saw him beat Makinen at the Silverstone Superspecial many years ago in his Scooby. Great atmosphere biggrin

A mate of mine is good friends with Colin and he's pretty sure that it won't be good news as he was at an event in cornwall today.

I'm truly devastated.

RIP Colin.

Commiserations from New Zealand. I still feel guilty at the time I was in a rush and didn't let a car out onto a busy roundabout just near Prodrive in Banbury, only to then realise it was Colin.

My thoughts go out to his family. RIP Colin, you are a legend.
