how do you use those smileys

as the title says most posts have a smilel of some sort how do i gat them/use them?

theyre just combinations of punctuation marks which come up as smiley faces etc theres a bit at the top of the box where you type your replies which says "smilies" which brings up a box with all the key combinations and the smilies which result
