Good luck with this project!!
Sounds like fun!

I'll admit (although haven't in the PH profiles ;-) that I had a 4-door All-aggro. My car had just died when I was at college and a friend of my dad's was floggin one. So bought it! 700quid I think. I had my first lesson in grinding valves down with it as the headgasket had blown, so did the valves while the head was off.

Noting the wonderful (not!) design of the cooling system. One of those new fangled electric fans (which was at the time) and the temperature sensor which kicked off the fan was at the TOP of the radiator! Is that stupid or what? So when your water gets a bit low and the sensor stays high and dry (and cool) and the fan doesn't come on when u need it most!! Hence the blown headgasket I suppose. Didn't have the car all that long (obviously!) and we didn't lose much selling it on.

The classic granny car! Great idea for a bit of a laugh. Respect to the mad gentleman attemping it!

Bloody mad, I like it. Having always liked sleepers, there's currently a Lupo with a wrecked 'box in my garage, awaiting stealthy plans to replace the other half's Type R evil

Allegros are Front Wheel Drive, don't honda make alot of their engines in Swindon [up road from me]? Quite British then!

Just thinking as alternative sleeper power - S2000 running gear [convert to RWD] - would sound normal at low revs, keep foot down and allegro snarls and bites! Keep standard 14" narrow wheel tyre combo - slideways fun at every corner!!!

This has got me going, may have to crunch some numbers....

Good effort.

We're thought about the 827 option, but settled on a slightly tweaked 620 turbo running nitrous (plus we kind of blew the budget on Lambo Doors); may be see you at Santa Pod or Le Mans.

I have a vague recollection of test driving an Allegro 1750SSS a long time ago, with the twin carb Maxi engine. That didnt seem slow at the time. After seeing Tony Jardine in an A series engine Austin A35 harrowing mark 2 jags atthe Goodwood revivial last year, A series can be made into screamers-but that wasnt the idea... I'll get me coat

This is just what we need more of, good old British nutters - mauling about with '70's retrojunk.

What a fantastic idea! I've always wanted to build somthing like this. When I was at uni, I wanted to put a V8 in my Volvo 340, could never afford it though...

I'm glad to see someone is up for the challenge of taking on a bit of a nutter project!

Good luck, I shall be watching with great interest!

learnt to drive in said allegro "equip". also did a 0-60 in @9 secs, sorry mum. handled ok after gassing. then gradually got worse.
Ours had a subtle gofaster stripe and silver, not the hideous starsky and hutch version.
Alloys later copied by Audi, though they didnt copy the aluminium corrosion which had already set in at 3yo. had a radio too, luxury. litre of oil at every fill up.

Allegro means "fast" in Italian (doesn't it?) which always made me laugh given the fact they were / are one of BL's worst ever cars.

My grandfather bless his soul, bought one brand new in about 1976 in that exact smae colour.

Great project.
Hope this car brings you years of hilarity and many
wtf stares from those you burn off.
I still remember the expression of a beemer owner when i passed them in my mates Citroen Dyane which had an Citroen GSA (1300cc) engine.

Good call on the rat look too.

try to get a crotcheted blanket from a Charity shop to go on the back seat and maybe a box of tissues and some cusions for the back shelf.

How about cutting the seat runners down so that when driving your head just appears above the steering wheel?

Good luck with your project.

Sounds like a cool project! I would have thought that a T-series 2.0L turbo from the Rover 820 Vitesse might have been a better engine choice as it's evolved from the B-series and O-series engines, the block is very similar IIRC. That would be more powerful and most probably lighter too. Still, the V6 will probably sound better and will certainly make a nice drive.
