Any chance of a ring attempt in the near future? Would taking on the Radicals 6:55 record be realistic?www.ultimasports.co.uk/topgearlaprecord.html

Was this an officially done Top Gear thing? As Top Gear, I understood, have never had a desire to have Atoms/Radicals/Ultimas around the track; not least, to actually have them on the leader board.
Isn't the Supercharged Atom not 5th or 6th on the power lap board - 1min 19 iirc. And did't JC get all child like and excited over it to?I see no reason why TG should shun Ultima given the time Noble have been on the program. Given Ultima's publicised relationship 'issues' with a lot of the press I'd have to take the comments in the article with a pinch of salt (along with the other stories).
Well done to them though. I posted loads of times that Ultima needed to get on that track and now finally they have!! I'll take mine in Black please. Post dated cheque ok?

Yup, my apologies - you're absolutely right. I must admit I remember, too, his (JC's) review of it. Which makes it, therefore, surprising that they've not embraced all types of cars like that? However, ultima of course are not the only notable exception in that case. Radical, if I recall, have set a lap many years ago but not an official one? Or have I just made that up?
Nevertheless, my cold-ness still stands about the news of the record. But, I must stress, I am a petrol head and so love the car, the idea, it's ethos, and it's execution of it. It's purely it's "news-worthy-ness" that I'm not excited by. As I mentioned earlier, I have a Lotus and so fully embrace the lightweight approach (and spend time in Caterham's etc).
Please read the article it is not a stripped out racecar.
"The Ultima GTR720 tested is a full road going car with compliant suspension and often used as a daily driver. All the vehicles produced by Ultima Sports Ltd have the usual road luxuries such as air conditioning, ICE, leather trim, sealed luggage carrying compartments and of course road car levels of ground clearance suitable for speed humps and other road obstacles. The Ultima GTR720 is equipped with a standard 5 speed Porsche G50-03 transmission and a standard production option 720bhp engine from the OE engine suppliers American Speed (www.amerspeed.com)."
Well done Ultima, nearly 5 seconds off! If that leaves anyone cold frankly they are allready dead!
Five seconds is a feckin mile, they could probably have fitted a TV and a roofrack and still blitzed the opposition!
Give credit where its due FFS.

Ultima's are far more usable than some people give them credit for. I had a passenger seat ride in the red 535bhp demonstrator and couldnt believe how comfortable the seats were, loads of headroom, full airconditioning, and very reasonable ride quality. They are very much as usable on the road and a lot less stressful than worrying about scratching your Zonda-egg-enzo
Much more usable than the other hypercars mentioned as well as a fraction of the price, Servicing a chevy V8 is about 157 times cheaper than a Zonda !, what planet are some people on!?

"But a 2 seater with luggage space, air con and a radio I would argue is more practical than an Ultima."
I'd need to check the website to be certain, but I belive air-con has been an option on Ultimas for years, there's luggage space in the pods if I remember rightly, & even I could fit a stereo in a car should it not come with one. The precticality of the Ultima is surely further enhanced by the fact that a reasonably saleried person could afford one AND a house - so much easier than living in a Koenigsegg / Enzo etc.

Please read my posts properly It's the news-worthy-ness of it. Everybody pretty much "knew", you know? I fully embrace the car itself, and have been in the queue many times when Guy's been out playing in his black one (not a 720, but a good spec - can't recall what) - though not had an opportunity yet.It IS an achievement, I don't question that at all. The sheer pace of the thing is astonishing and importantly it's not just in one area; for example it doesn't only get the 0-100-0, or fast track times, it's both.

Just read that elsewhere actually and I must admit defeat. That it affords those luxuries I am extremely impressed with. It's rawness can't be debated - I've been fortunate enough to spend some great times in a Mosler MT900 with aircon and radio - though the car itself is still "raw". But yes, I was wrong on those points too.I'd need to check the website to be certain, but I belive air-con has been an option on Ultimas for years, there's luggage space in the pods if I remember rightly, & even I could fit a stereo in a car should it not come with one. (I really had shut up on this thread now, at this rate!)
I thought a number of years a go that put a Radical, Catram and a number of other kit / factory built things round the track that where at the top of the leader board for a while however they diapered from the leader board next series this must have been series 1 or 2 of the new format
I have also whanted to see an ultima on top gear for ages lets hope that top gear are now tempted to show the car.

Well done chaps, a great achievment www.ultimasports.co.uk/topgearlaprecord.html
What is amazing here is not just that it beat the best time, but it blitzed it.. seriously a fantastic time there. There is 1.4 second spread over the rest of the top five, then the best part of 5 second jump for the Ult... brilliant
1. - Ultima GTR - 1 min 12.8 secs
2. - Koenigsegg CXX (with Top Gear spoiler) - 1 min 17.6 secs
3. - Pagani Zonda F - 1 min 18.4 secs
4. - Maserati MC12 - 1 min 18.9 secs
5. - Ferrari Enzo - 1 min 19.0 secs
