RE: Project Retirement Rocket PART 2.
Discussion
Completely off topic this, but I'm just curious... what state was the 2CV that you were driving on Monday in, as it looked quite tidy? Although I've never exactly been a fan of the 2CV (my Mum had a Dyane many years ago that I loathed) I always think it's a bit sad to see an apparently tidy example of an old car being given some stick, a bit like the old Merc estate that VBH trashed in the last series.
When modern cars get abused on telly it's just a case of 'there'll be another one along in a minute' (with the exception of some exotica) but with anything older, I can't ever help thinking 'that's one less of those left then', even if it's something I don't particularly like!
Edited to add... apologies for hijacking the thread, but you don't normally get the chance to ask these sort of questions!

Hi Rich
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of destroying good motors either. In fact, I often try to save a lot of stuff. The 2CV was MoTd and taxed and all complete but tatty here and there. It only suffered a damaged exhaust bolt in the whole feature with my hill scrambling AND it did reach the summit on my second attempt, albeit slower than a 4WD. They have crap heating but 2CVs are amazing pieces of utilitarian kit. I loved it.

Thanks for the reassurance Jonny! I'm assuming that it's now tucked up somewhere in the temperature and humidity controlled Smith garage pending a Bernie Ecclestone style sell-off in a few years time!
It's interesting to hear that it did make it up the hill after all (presumably that wasn't aired in order to spare the C-Crosser some blushes?) - as you say, the 2CV is a pretty unburstable bit of kit as long as you're not after luxury or performance (I remember my Mum having to call my Dad out once because we'd driven about three quarters of the way up a steep hill on a country lane near home and then got stuck because the car just wouldn't physically go any further!).

Great project
my brother saw this in wokingham the other day
I've never seen that one around Wokingham, and I'm sure I wouldn't have missed it. Will have to keep my eyes peeled! my brother saw this in wokingham the other day
In common with the Mk1 Escort estate I saw in Finchampstead a while back, that Allegro harks back to a time of 2 door estates with massive rear windows. You just don't see that sort of styling any more!

Hello guys. Not been on the forum for ages due to work commitments but want to reassure everyone that Project Retirement Rocket has NOT been retired. Sure, there have been delays but it's progressing. Completion is set for January 2009. A full PH news report will come soon, but I can reveal the Golf GTi coilovers and struts and front discs are on, the engine's in, the wiring has been started and measurements are being taken for twin radiators...
Thanks for bearing with me. The 2-door Legro will live!
