Sorry for going quiet.
The silence has not meant that Retirement Rocket is dead - she is not far from being well and truly alive. Last engine mount to go, Janspeed exhaust and scratch built manifold to fit, Golf struts and hubs to fit and then wiring loom. Obviously bar that it's plain sailing....

Note VW Polo steel wheels for near-exact original authenticity. I've also sourced a Mk1 grille and brown quartic steering wheel (rare and awkward to drive with). Mk3 Golf GAZ adjustable coilovers are being fitted in place of the Hydrospastic. We're going for a twin alloy rad system, which are on order via Simon @ www.suffolkcountymantas.co.uk.

I admire the attention to detail, but I'd be sorely tempted to give a little clue for anyone peering through the window whilst still keeping it period, with this tasteful item:

What a fantastic idea. More updates please thumbup
I remember my parents having one of these when I was a child and to see someone put a dirty great V6 in there is just magic. Awesome, cant wait to see it on the road.

What is the status, I,m just about to revive my 'Brown Bomber' (guess what it is!) and am thinking of an engine change along these lines (honda VTEC?) and would like to hear how this is going. Do the polo steel wheel fit allegro hubcaps? Mine are like 50p's and have about 6kg of balance weights on them!

Please UPDATE. :-)

Jonny has offered us an updated article as the car nears completion.

Hopefully it won't be too long before you see it on PH again.

Over three years and next to bugger all achieved. Nice project - well done on wrecking TWO classics for nothing!

Last update 2 years ago - what's the betting that it's all been chucked in the bin now and Johnny hasn't got the balls to admit that he couldn't make it work?

Do you know something we don't or are you just making assumptions fueled by some sort of BL fanaticism?

Whose to say they're wrecked? Nothing to say that the Allegro could well be on its way or done by now.
