Look at that interior, fantastic. Audi could learn a thing or two from these boys
What would they learn???Audi could also learn a lot from the Alfa 166:
My god that's ghastly. I hope Audi don't try to learn anything from that. Give me the sombre grey and black over beige and wood any day.

I saw a mint red one yesterday. Real road presence and a beautiful car. Only drove one once but it was really great. Not fast by todays standards but a real grin inducer. As far as '80's cars go it is second only to a Mk1 MR2.
Totaly agree, I had two mk1 MR2's, and nothing of that era or power compares to them, great fun cars to drive. Was a passenger in one of these RX7's once, and it has a fair old kick, shame it broke down on the way back, these wankel engines require more tlc, from what I can tell, drink oil more than normal, and where do you get them serviced-maintained?, if there's not a centre local,-(which I know that exist), you've got a fair run to keep it in good nick. Don't know if there easy to maintain yourself, something to do with compresion init?
Don't understand, comments about exterior, it looks a very classic shape, shame the interior has been coloured in a 'love it or leave it' colour, I suppose it was the fashion at the time.
Dear Author Oli S, Can we do a forum about people over 'pimping'-(if that's the correct term?) there cars, it s me right off when I see a genuine well styled car that has been 'Veilsided', and made to look like a 'Batmobile' film prop. Has this already been done?, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but ing ell, some people need to be 'tared and feathered' for what they do to there cars,.............why? It would provide a good debate I feel.
Aah, the magnum opus. Possibly Mazda's finest moment as everything just briefly came together and was right. The series 2 looked like a toy space shuttle (though I still love it); but the Savanna 1 had something. Character most likely, entirely absent today.
And to those who call it hideous, I've got the number of a good optician.

Not the biggest fan of the mk1 RX7, but for under a grand you really can't argue. Sounds like it's in rather better condition than a 924 at the same price would be. It's RWD and a bit different (these days atleast) - what's not to like? The whole point of shed is to provide cheap fun; you can't get a 944 at that price let alone a 911, so I don't see the objections to the Mazda.
Japanese cars notoriously take cues from 2 European cars of the time, anyone remember them recording the noise of an MG's gear change for the MX5?
Anyways, this is definately lotus/924 in terms of styling, just not enough of either.
It's nice, has something about it, just not enough for consideration.

- cough* I have a '55 plate RX-8 and at absolute best I get 21mpg on a good long motorway run ...
... on the last Dawn Raid I took it on I don't think I broke double figures. :-D
But it hits 9,500rpm before the rev limiter and handles so damn well that after it anything else feels like a whale. (Well, OK - the last car I drove *WAS* a whale ... it was a Bentley Continental GT!) The traction control is astonishingly good - just turn it off in the wet and drive "normally" if you dare - and the brakes have saved several Bambi's from becoming mush!
Love it! *sigh*
