RE: Thunder Road Cobra 289FIA

Dinkel; the small blocks can handle traffic, early opening stat, alloy rad and high volume fan help.
Vomit in your lap.. Sarf London ain't improved then.. wouldn't have happened when Frankie and the Richardsons ruled though..
Jon, dropped my Dax in to Cheng today, a lifter slightly noisy, one of Rod Leach's cars is in ..a 1994 (continuation) of the 1966 AC Cobra 427 s/c, BEAUTIFUL, just 190 miles covered! Closest I've been to the real thing, will take some pics when I collect my car, and try to post them! Cheng seems capable of anything on any car.

Less is more with cobs.
I agree:Less is more with cobs.
Quite comfy: sitting upright and with a huge strip of glass in front of you. Something like a TR4/6 is more of a struggle.
Love the wheels. Love the tat and look at those 105Db exhausts.
The Cob wasn't properly run in so 4500 rpm was our limit for the morning. Big Holley Dominator suits the engine better than the noisy Webers.
Proper Yank lump in there. Didn't the S&H Torino have a 460 in? These engines go up to 550 in racetrim, here probably about 350.
Cheng is a great guy. Capable of the wheel too. Phil loves this pic
My pic of the bunch: 2nd in the Spa6 1 hr-race.
Well here's the car I built...
Got to say I hate that whole Kit-Car mentality thing, and the usual thousand excuses that go with it..you know, Of course I would have had a Big Block, but they overheat, and spoil the handling, so i went for the 'Rover/Cortina/moped' engine etc, etc, etc,...
And remember, you mustn't ever 'buy' parts.. you must 'Source' them...LOL
Anyway it's a USA 'Contemporary' car with the 'Real-Deal' 1965 FE427 7-litre Medium-Riser Side-Oiler with 5speed Nash/Richmond and 2.88 LSD rear.. no, it hasn't overheated..ever! (the right sized (NEW)radiator is usually important here)
I tried to build it without compromise or excuse.
Effortless and repeatable 12.3s 1/4 mile times
I had 185 once (still pulling hard) and theoretically should red-line 6500rpm (steel Le-Mans crank) at 205+ (you probably never could with those aerodynamics!)

GRP:If the molding is done right you can detect what feels like the 'wired' lip in the wheelarch.
It fools most of the fools most of the time.
The Aluminium/GRP debate is nonsense anyway.

Dinkel, amused me that revs had to be limited to 4500..that 460 must make 500 ft/lbs @ 3000! There is much to be said for driving a car as opposed to vacuuming the tyres every time it goes out; good to see a car being enjoyed!
Steve rod, the Contemporary is stunning, and I agree that spec is the ultimate.. but many can't run to the cost of a 427 FE motor, my Windsor cost me five grand, if I'd had even a 390 FE stroked that would have been ten grand, a 427 FE £15-20k..? If I went for the whole '427' package, I'd have to have the Kirkham; look at the price though.
Jon, that Nostalgia 427 s/c @ Thunder Rd looked NEW, arrived on a trailer apparently.

Obviously owned by a MUPPET! (Nothing wrong with the trailer - but for anyone just coming on 11 years old and a few 100 miles). Christ it should have that put on it ever other run!Paul/runt.
Cheng says their changing brake fluid, oils etc, start the engine up etc; I imagine that car sat dormant for most of the time.
Its fascinating looking @ the subtle differences from replicas; the front wheel arches on the AC, and also the lack of clearance between seat and steering wheel. My car is waiting for bits, will take pics when I collect.

Since this is a Cob-topic:
Most have a 350 CID or a RV8 in on their 427 badged Cobs.
Is it so hard to find a 427, 428 or 440 to drop in?
Anyways, they always turn heads. Either good or bad reps.
The red and white Cobra is CSX2130 now owned by Shaun Lynn, built originally for Le Mans in 1963 but not raced
Without words:
