I didn't always agree with him but he was a man I had a good deal of respect for.
My thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.

I was just thinking that it's almost a year since former Talksport presenter Mike Dickin died. Mike was a great car enthusiast and would quite regularly have Paul as a guest on his show.

A terrible loss. IMO Paul Smith did more for road safety in the past 10 years than anyone else in the country. The time and effort he spent was enormous, I hope it is not forgotten.

Just glancing over General Gassing there, and was about to turn the page when I spotted this thread title. I don't mind saying I had a real "bloody hell!" moment when I took a double-take.

My condolences to Paul's family and friends, I have no doubt whatsoever that this gentleman will be sorely missed.

Rest In Peace.

I'm shocked, this is terrible news and he was only 52? Surely this has to be stress related, the big guns out there have all the ammo and he was just one dedicated individual fighting the road safety fight. His successor will need big feet to step into his shoes. I remember when he first started and it became his passion.

My condolences to his partner, family and personal friends.

Deep sorrow for a huge loss.

A great human being, tirelessly seeking reason in the mire of incompetent bureaucracy.

No doubt there will be much hand wringing in several camps today.

I trust foul play was absent..?

Dammit, why do so many good 'uns die young when so much dross thrives into old age?

My heart-felt condolences go out to his family.

In his own quiet way he was a great man, fighting for something he felt passionate about -- he didn't just moan on a forum like I do, he went out there and did stuff. He will be sorely missed.
Nice sentiments and echoed from me too - thanks to Paul and his family for all his selfless work - the World needs more people with such passion and generosity of spirit..

That's extremely sad news.

He was one of those people who we all relied on to fight our cause, and he did so brilliantly and intelligently, in a way which gained genuine credibility for the campaign. That he also seemed to manage this with humility goes some way to show how decent he was.

He did proud those of us who love our driving, and he'll be sorely missed.
