I got sent an e-mail earlier with an enquiry about this link

http://www.wewillbuyyourcar.com

My software tells me its ok, but be careful or check it yourselves. The company name is in Hull, but a search for the .co.uk details (registered at the same time as the .com) reveals the address to be in West Yorkshire.
Potentially explained by this (First paragraph on page 2)

General concencus on the web appears to be that they do what they say they will do... they just offer a low value for your car.

Avoiding the hassle and expense of a private sale/autotrader etc has to cost you somewhere along the line....

Personally, I would still be very wary though, but maybe that's just me.....

I emailed a guy about a ML 320 and received a reply about him moving to Italy etc. etc. I suspected it was a scam and when I told him that I would only buy the car if it was delivered using an escrow service of my choice I never heard from him again - surprise surprise!! The next day, I emailed for details of a different ML 320 and received the exact same e-mail. Told Piston Heads and adverts were removed. They should all be shot.

Fortunately for us buyers, it's quite hard to do the whole scam thing when ones command of the english language and the normal constructs that are used in buying from classifieds is pretty low.

In the dialogue, you can always spot stuff that is pretty much rubbish.

We do have a fraud warnings page which can be found in the left hand menu on any page within the classified section. I know that it is not very visible at the moment but we have not really needed it until recently. I will be looking at ways of making it more obvious in the very near future.

Very interesting and also scary as that looked very convincing. They must spend ages setting up these scams...Still it only needs one.
Steve/mods perhaps you should edit that post taking out personal information.

I e-mailed a guy about a polo for my girlfriend, car pictures looked sound but the price a little cheap but it was a private sale so thought it was just an inexperienced seller. Got an e mail back saying that he was in italy and the car was there with him etc and that i wouldnt be able to view it. I sent one back sayng f**k off you lying scumbag, to which i recieved no reply. It seems to be the in thing at the minute but realistically you have to be a bit of a muppet to fall for them or have money to burn.

They are a bunch of f*cking t0ssers, who spoilt it for the rest.

They need to be taken to one side and have their f*cking hands severed, so that they will not be able to type that sort of crap ever again.....

Sorry, but it p1sses me off that these w*nkers have nothing better to do, and then people like us are working hard, trying to earn an honest living....

if you have any ads that are definately scammers, www.419eater.com is always happy to hear about them. plenty of people on there will frustrate the hell out of the scammers, playing them along, and sending them down the western union office to continually try to pick up payments that don't exist etc.

It doesn't stop these muppets but its nice to know you can piss them off too.

Hi,

I would say I have just been dealing with a scammer......... look for many spelling mistakes in his e-mails although I am not perfect lol!
Flippin' 'eck mate, if poor spelling was enough to put folk off doing a deal very few cars would be sold on Pistonheads, some of the spelling in adverts that I have no reason to believe are anything other than genuine is truly appalling.

(This is slightly tongue-in-cheek, I do get your point)

Also note any nonsense jargon... For example "no technical damage" (??) No-one speaks like this in the real world (certainly not anyone who's first language is English anyway)!

I have seen these type of ads on autotrader just recently too. Says car is mint under price but can not take phone calls only email. Once you email they direct you to you global money to pay. Its all scam it started on ebay. If you do get any emails which are usually hotmail or gmail I use the id and try to log onto the account using all sorts of passwords resulting in the account being locked. It slows them down a bit I guess.

Apparently they are nasty b*stards and shouldn't antagonised
I haven't heard or seen anything to back this up. I go out of my way to nause & abuse them, I've had them on the phone before when I've been selling cars, and they end up putting the phone down on me smile
The car he was looking at was an Aston they'd apparently borrowed from someone, they were a gang from London and were known to use violence from what the guy at Autotrader said, personally, i'd be the brave one before giving them my details thats for sure. Abuse them all you want, just make sure they can't trace you.

On a lighter note, there was a thread a while back from the guy who used to feed them false information like, "the person who buys this car needs to like floppy dogs c*ck, do you like floppy dogs c*ck?" He would then get this guy emailing back in broken english saying he loved it. I forget the company name as he has a section on his website, but there's 419scammers.com or something that use it as a sport.

These guys need as much humiliation as possible in my opinion.

Very easy to lose a morning (or more) reading that site....

My favourite (because of the photograph) is the "Steve Ebe" story in which 419Eater assumes the name of Plunder Myknuts, who is head of an information technology company, and he asks the scammer (Steve Ebe) to prove his identity by writing out a message as dictated by Mr Myknuts, and have himself photographed.

This is what the resulting photograph looked like..... hehe
