The car is available and I'm trying to sell it as low as I can to close this sale ASAP.
The car drives faultlessly, has no damage, no scratches, no marks or dents on paintwork, no mechanical problems or leaks of any kind, no hidden defects.
There is no outstanding finance (HPI cleared) and it has an accident free history. It comes with original invoice, log book, keys and all the documents to register it into your name.
I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major business problems so pick up isn't an option. Sorry about that... Hope you will understand... But, you can still buy the car... The selling price will be £14,000. For this price I will include free delivery of the car anywhere in the UK. You will also have access to a refund policy on this transaction.
However, before any delivery can be done we have to start the transaction on ebay so we can be both protected. In order to start the transaction on the eBay system I need to receive some details from you:
- your full name and address (for your invoice + delivery purposes)...
As soon as the above details will be provided I'll start the official transaction on eBay and they will notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines + instructions from them ( please go through them exactly ).
Let me know ASAP if you are interested to purchase my car.

I'm playing with one for a £5k merc on ebay. It falls in to the to good to be true catagory.

Here is the correspondence from Tina Stewart Tina[s.tina33@yahoo.com] in Spain in reverse order.

Hello,

I bought this car from UK and it is still registered there so you don't have to pay any import taxes or any other fees. The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, (it's lien free).
If you want to check the car here are the reg details and also the hpi check:
VRM - YX54UAY
VIN - WDB2112262A623754
V5 serial number - BG2070243
V5 issue date - 07/06/2005
https://www.hpicheck.com/consumer/checkReport.do?r...

In order for us to go to the next level i will need you to provide the following info (your ebay id, full name and full address).I will then notify Ebay about our deal and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
I will be waiting for your reply as soon as possible
Thank you in advance

Hi again,
I attached the pics in case you want to see the vehicle again.
I explained that the transaction will be supervised by Ebay. The finacial part of this deal will be manage by them. They are acting like a third party in this deal. They will keep the money until you receive the car and test it.In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund, upon the return of the item in original condition (return postage at my expense).
In order for us to go to the next level i will need you to provide the following info (Ebay ID, your full name, your exact address) and I will notify ebay that you are selected as my buyer.
After I get in touch with them they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
I will be waiting for your email with the info in order to get this ball rolling
Best regards,

Hello there,

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2004 MERCEDES-BENZ E320 CDI. Although I am registered in the UK, but I recently moved in Spain (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I made the auction for UK due to the fact it's UK version (right handed), meet all the UK standards, and its better to ship it where it belongs, that means UK, because here in Spain is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle. It still has UK registration, so you don't have to pay any import taxes or any other fees because I didn't paid for Spain import taxes .The car meets United Kindom DOT and EPA guidelines so there will be no problems regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in a perfect cosmetic and engine conditions, and meticulously maintained. No damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, the engine has never been repaired or something like that, never been into accidents and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, it is free of encumbrances and liens. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in UK, and also a bill of sale in your name and signed by me.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund, upon the return of the item in original condition (return postage at my expense). It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your front door in maximum one week. Final price is £ 5,000 (this price includes the shipping and insurance). The price is low because the car is worthless here.A right hand drive in a country where all the cars have a left hand drive.Nobody wants to buy it and so instead of keeping it in garage I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be manage by Ebay,in this way both of us will be protected.
Let me know if you need any further details about my car.

Thank you!

They have a few cars on ebay with the same email address.

For fun put the email address on your blackberry and email them when you are bored. I have just asked her how her mother is and if she has ever been in the car and if she enjoyed the experience. I wonder if I will get a reply?

I have had one of these today as well. I must admit its dissapointing to see in a way the PH are aware but its still continuing.
I know that a lot of people will find a way around the system but at present you can advertise on here with out even being a registered member of the site and the ad appears for free.

Surely you can do one fo two things which "may" "help" to "minimise" ( not cure) the problem.

If youre not registed on the site simply charge for the ad with a credit card, this may put off one or two hoaxers.

If you are registered then perhaps get more info through a secure registration process. That way again it may help to deter scammers. I know it wouldnt please evryone using PH, but surely, some effort needs to be made to make it more difficult for scammers to operate.

Im sure genuine advertisers wouldnt mind registering in some way.

I cant believe that someone could have come so close to relieving me of the money I have inheritied from a deceased Kenyan President that i am picking up next week.

Going back to the comment about PH adverts being free, autotrader isn't free and they still advertise. Have a look under Audi tt today, and you will see the two cheapest ones in the country have the same text ....."autotrader email not working, please email me on Robbingbastard@nigeri.com" or something similar.

I'm presuming they use stolen credit card details to place the adverts smile

Im not disagreeng with that at all, however, anything in place is at least better than nothing at all. I would go as far as to say that if Ted was still about and directly responible for the site he would feel like the rest of us and be working pro-actively to at least try to be seen to stop this happenning.

Now that Haymarket are in charge I feel that the feeling of responsibility to the users is not as it was before. ( Rose tinted "good ole days" specs still attached!)

Hello,
I want to inform you that i will buy your car but i have a business proposal for you.

I am a captain with the United Nations troop in Iraq,on war against terrorism.Based on the United States legislative and executive decision for withdrawing troops from iraq come this year,i have been deployed to come and work in your country's military base soonest.

Our mission is to help beef up terrorist targeted states, mostly the United states and the European Union on the war against terrorism.I will need a car for myself and that is why i contacted you.

On the other hand i want to inform you that I have in my possession the sum of 3.2million USD. which was recovered from one of our raids on terrorists here in iraq because they keep most of their money at home for evil activities which they normally get through illegal deals on crude oil.

Based on the suffering we undergo here some of us do meet such luck.It happened that i went for this raid with the men in my unit and i decided to take it as my share for my stress here in this evil land filled with suicide bombers.
I deposited this money with a red cross agent informing him that we are making contact for the real owner of the money. It is under my power to approove whoever comes forth for this money.

Where i have a problem is how to invest this money in europe on stocks and real estate.I cannot move this money to the United states because i will be in europe for about 3years and will want to invest it there with my wife who will be relocating with me,so i need someone i could trust.

If you accept,i will transfer the money to europe where you will be the beneficiary because i am a uniformed person and i cannot be parading such an amount so i need to present someone as the beneficiary.I am an american and an intelligence officer for that so i have a 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service .I just need your acceptance and all is done.

Please if you are interested in this transaction i will give to you the complete details you need for us to carry out this transaction successfully.I decided to find someone that is real and not imaginary and that is why i went to a secured car site where i can be sure that the person is real.

I believe i can trust you. where we are now we can only communicate through our military communication facilities which is secured so nobody can monitor our discussions, then i can explain in details to you.I will only reach you through email, because our calls might be monitored,I just have to be sure whom i am dealing with.

If you are interested please send me your personal mobile number so i can call you for further enquiries when i am out of our military network.I am writing from a fresh email account so if you are not interested do not reply to this email and please delete this message,if no response after 3days i will then search for someone else.

I am doing this on trust, you should understand and you should know that as a trained millitary expert i will always play safe in case you are the bad type, but i pray you are not.3.2million USD is a lot of money which is the dream of anyone.

I wait for your contact details so we can go on.In less than 7days the money should have been noted on your account and i will come over for my money.I will give to you 30% of the sum and 70% is for me.I hope i am been fair on this deal.

Regards,
Capt.Willy Anderson

P.S. THE ABOVE EMAIL WAS WRITTEN IN THE FONT 'COMIC SANS'.

Hello Paulie,
Thanks for your response. I want you to know that the font of my message should not be our consentration rather the content. I equally want you to know that this is not a joke. It is real. Eversince we discovered this great fortune, I have not had a good night rest based on the fact that I have been on the look out for a honest contact to successfully handle this deal.

There is no way i can handle this deal alone but with you, as all through yesterday we were all at easy waiting to capture the emergency of new troop of militants across the boarder as sent in by the Muslims. so you can see how busy i am.

On the discovery of this great fortune , we used our prestige as U.S marines on peace keeping mission to temporally deposit this fund with a red cross officer, for safe keeping, under the pretence that the owner will lay claim on it under my instructions. The red cross officer who has been working hand in hand with some of our pilots has access of going out and coming in virtually on daily basis, All i require from you is for you to help me secure this fund untill my mission elapses i shall compensate you with 40% of the total money.

With these as stated above, you are now required by this letter to furnish me with the information below, as I did told the Red Cross officer that we shall be intimating him with the information of the rightful owner of the boxes.

1. Your Full name
2. Your country of origin and Contact address in your country
3. Your state of residence and origin in your country
4. A copy of your international passport /driver's license
5. Your direct telephone number

Now that i demand your information to enable the Red Cross officer to know where and how to deliver the fund to you, hence he is always on transit for the good of our officers and as well for the welfare of the refugees under our care.

Once these are sent to me ,i shall submit them and now inform you on how the diplomat will come to take delivery of the money.
Get back to me urgently,

Thanks
Capt. Willy Anderson

MY LAST EMAIL BACK TO 'OL WILLY...

Hello Willy,

I feel it time to let you know I am not the man you think I am. In fact I am a muslim. An Iraqi muslim. And a particularly dodgy one at that. In fact I even drive a clapped out robin reliant (by the way, if you want to buy any completely real designer fake candlesticks, gimme a bell, we can do a deal). So as you can imagine I am neither trustworthy (ask FirstPlus Homeowner Loans) and also pretty peeved at my homeland being pillaged.

I feel inclined to inform your superior, a Captain Scrotum I believe, as Im sure he wouldnt be happy about some of the crap his Willy is plunging into.

So, with the points raised above, I now require YOU to varnish/furnish me with a letter of apology (not in comic sans) and agreement you will return my god given heritage (praise be allah) to its rightfull home by this afternoon. At 5. (we shut early on Mondays)

Cheers ever so
Paulie

Found a Ferrari for sale - very very cheap (it was 0.5 of a similar one) so not knowing anything about this scam - i orginally thought it was genuie. i emailed the guy, got some information about the car, however things started going wrong when i asked for a phone number. he claimed he had car accident and was in the us....

After giving up my details (!) i was sent an email which looks like something you get from ebay - "you have purchased this car." (i can forward this if anyone wants). Anyway cutting to the chase - the guy wanted me to prove that i was serious by sending 3k over using moneygram .....

....watch out these guys are trying to get you excited by the car and purchase.....

I having been working on this problem a lot recently and have made a number of behind the scenes changes which should hopefully make a difference. One example is that I have recently changed the banning system to give me a lot more flexibility and power to ban these scammers and that already seems to have reduced the number that ever make it onto the site. We also have some user-facing changes in the pipeline which should also hopefully make a big difference (but don't worry, nothing radical that will spoil the site!)

Regarding your comments about things being better under Ted's rule, it is not true that we don't have the feeling of responsibility towards our users. I was a user of the site long before i worked here and I still see myself as a member of the community first and foremost. PistonHeads under Haymarket is not a huge faceless enterprise, we are a very small team who are all car enthusiasts and are all passionate about the site.

I guess the biggest difference in this kind of situation is whereas Ted had the freedom to say whatever he wanted, we have to watch our words a little more and this unfortunately reduces the amount that we can share about what we are upto and what we have planned.

But we are on the case, and we do care, and i will be keeping an eye on this thread so if anyone has any questions/suggestions then do post them on here and I will answer as best I can.

Hi Guys. Wish I'd read this thread earlier. Taken in by an 2003 Audi A4 1.9tdi Quattro advertised for £3800. Cheap, too cheap to be genuine I kept telling myself. I ignored all my sense's and pursued this unbelievable offer as far as forwarding my contact details.

Am I now at risk from this SCAMMER or future Scams, after giving out my details? Please advise
