shoutNO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

I was unfortunate enough to run one of these for 6 months and it was a pile of cr@p.

Almost to the day the warranty ran out it started going wrong - electrics, fuel tank, suspension, stereo, etc etc. Luckily I kicked up such a fuss with Renault UK Head Office that it got fixed by them for free. However, the problem was that 95% of the dealers had never seen one and didn't know how to fix it or service it! A simple 2 hour service job would turn into 3-4 days while they waited for a Renault HQ technician to come and fix something they'd accidently reset or broken. And this was not a one-off event, it happened every time it was at a dealer.

In the 6 months I ran a top of the range V6 Vel Satis, it was off the road for 8 weeks at dealerships!

On the motorway, steady 85 these things will average 30MPG (according to the trip computer, which does lie a little). Short stop start stuff=18 mpg, general 30 mile A road driving=22 mpg.

If i ever meet one of the seeming hundreds of people that specced so many of these late S6 Avants as an auto i'll find it very difficult to not bludgeon them to death with their own severed arm.

I'm currently torn between one of those 6 litre Jags (they're just so 'Arfur') and that scarcely believable E39 540i (auto) for little-no money at all.

I too share others' enthusiams for the delightfully wheeled E34 540 in Avus blue but some interior pictures would be nice.

Does anyone do a supercharger for the E34 540i?

if so, how much would it cost?

I quite fancy chasing down 911s in £6k worth of Bahnblaster.

Rotrex, Dinan and ESS spring to mind. I'd reckon on £4k-£5k ish for a factory looking fit and finish.

A Bentley for just over budget?

Get them to take the personal plate off, that'll save a few bob.

No mileage though. Which concerns me.

The Nogaro Blau alcantara interior is part of the legend (check out the RS2s). Shame it is an auto and has the wood trim though.

I would choose an X300 Jaguar. I used to have an XJ Sport and still miss it. They still look great today.

Squire, seems nice but when Broughtons borrowed me one for Twix smugglage in 1998, I was reminded of a rather unappetising rendezvous with a Lada Riva and some hippies in Geordieland, circa ten years previous: a nice badge but little more than an Edwardian drawing table on well rubbered castor.

That should learn you.

P.S. What date is Dr T's?

I agree, that's possibly the most beautiful E34 I've seen. Perfect wheels, perfect colour, in perfect condition and fettled by a man who knows what he's doing... I'm so very tempted myself because that'll double in value in a few years' time...
