yes, fantastic. I'm hoping though that a Top Gear cheap car challenge will feature a TVR Cerbera at some point. Something like "How hard can it be to get stock supercar perfomance for less than £10K" Allthoug I'm sure they would get a particularly dubious one just to get the bad-reliability-rep right frown...

An excellent article phil. It makes me proud to have owned a TVR Cerbera for over 4 years. Sadly she was sold in DEcember 2007, but no-one can take those 4 years away from me. I will always love Cerberas.

Great thread.
Are we going to have a regular "heroes" thread?
I nominate the Porsche 911 for the next one.

You could always fit a colander to the front of a Cerbera, then you'd have your perfect car!

Great article, and a truely beautiful car. The first time I saw one I was in love, and the interior still amazes me today.

Sadly I'm only in a position to buy at the bottom end of the market, and then wouldn't be able to keep her on the road so I have some time to wait.

But as many have said, one day..... smile

They didn't build any LHD Cerberas, did they?

Maybe one day I'll buy my third one, but this time it'd have to be white with the 17" 4.5 wheels - anyone know one??
I remember you from the egroup days... I believe you went for an SL55 after the Cerb? - For the next one, make sure its a mapped/short inductioned 4.5 - it makes the 4.5 what it should have been all along, a 4.2 stepped up a notch. evilthumbup
So there were 4.5's with different intakes? Were the short ones the later cars?

If you took a Cerb in to the states after 6 months it will be a drive way ornament. It does'nt meet U.S regulations.

Thanks for the info, Dinkel.

What an amazing car and v8 engine. Just a rare combination of unusual design features all fitted together into something that worked.

Aside from Ferrari what other cars have a flat plain v8? Love that sound in large displacements.
Lotus Esprit V8 and TVR Cerbera 4.2 and 4.5. The Ferrari engine used in the Lancia Thema was not a flat-plane V8 and neither are the Maserati 4.2 V8 engines.

Ferrari 355 was though (and 360/430 descendants I think).

Just found out the VW W8 engine from the Passat has a flat plane crank also; reasonably tempted by tempted by one and have even found me an estate version for the full on family Q-Car role. Would make a nice brother to the Cerb biggrin

But in Canada, once they are 15 yrs old, free reign to bring one in. 3 more years... I really should be saving my pennies!

Didn't know about the W8, but what I meant as far as Ferrari V8's was that all Ferrari V8 enginesss used in Ferraris were of the flat-plane crank type. So all 208's and 308's (GTB, GTS, GT4), Mondials, 328's, 348's, 355's, 360's, and 430's have flat-plane cranks as far as I know. The Ferrrari-developed 4.2 V8 engines used in Maseratis and the detuned 308 V8 used in the Lancia Thema 8.32 do not.

The Swiss importers/distributors converted four or five to LHD in their time.

Again, thanks to all who replied. The US has a similar law, but instead of 15 years, it's 25. I could always get legal residence in Canada. wink Yes, I know it doesn't meet US laws.

There is also a law that allows importation of certain cars that are considered significant, and the powers that be have to approve of the car. They also limit how many miles you drive them because the idea is to allow owners of such cars to drive them to and from car shows. I believe that it's the one that's commonly known as the Bill Gates law.
