Sounds great; exactly the kind of cars I actually want to read about.

High though the production values of 'Evo' are, there're only so many articles about LP640s and Zondas that I'll want to read, as I'll never be owning them!

968CS, Integrale, E30 M3... this is my 'comfort zone'. Modern stuff may be 'quicker', but all too often the car has had its soul sacrificed to fly-by-wire throttles, stability control and other devices which can further detach the driver from the experience. Maybe I'm just a Luddite?

I have many back copies of the original 'Performance Car'. I remember the first time they got their hands on a Cerbera, Barker 'testing' their Race Tuscan and the Tango-orange Project 944CS.

'Fast Lane' was good in its time also. Unfortunately, circulation of these mags is always the problem; the public want to spend their £4 on 'What Airbag?' each month, in order to see which 55 bhp shopping trolleys are available with traction control...
yes
That is exactly the thought echoed by many, many people on here chap and going by the first promising issue of Pc I think that we will be very happy.

I still re-read my old Performance Car mags and still watch my old PC video too, great issues back then thumbup

Got my copy on the way back from a customer meeting... biggrin

In WHSmith's at Liverpool Street, better be a bloody good read for £4 though. Looks promising, and very early EVO to me.

By the end of my train journey home, my EVO subscription could well be cancelled....

That will be me another £4 a month down then. And another pile of magazines for the wife to suggest I ought to find space in the loft.

Ooh, fallen at the first hurdle...

Chimaera article said:
So ignore the leaks, the hot starting problems, the fact the door opening mechanism will fail and trim will fall off...

Not sure about the driving lights... hurl

Had hoped that we'd see an open minded view, based on experience ownership, rather than rehashed TG opinions.

Clearly I was wrong, but then what would I know? The missus and I have had 4 TVRs (inc 2 Chimaera's) and never had issues with leaking, trim falling off, failed door mechanisms or hot starting problems.

Sounds as if they should just have reprinted the 80s editions.

Well, it promised so much and delivered so little. frown

Apart from the initial heart flutter of 80’s machinery, the photography isn’t bad (none of this out of focus, blurred rubbish) but the layout is so clearly stolen from EVO it’s appalling. The fact you can order prints of the photos just re-iterates that. The writing, whilst informative doesn’t sparkle and there is little to keep you engrossed in any of the writing styles.

The Chimaera article shows so little understanding of TVRs that it’s sickening for something that it supposed to be a car enthusiast’s magazine. Indeed I could write an entire article on the bits they omitted to cover. Amusingly they are very concerned over running costs in the Long Term fleet, but it doesn’t get a mention here.

It was nice to see them go out on a limb and rate the Suzuki Swift, but to then pitch it against a Mini Cooper S (and lose) seems a waste of 2 pages…

All IMO of course.

Looks like Evo from 10 years ago, but not as inspiring. Evo's moved with the times so this just seems old-fashioned (not the cars, but the magazine). Could do better.

i like it a lot. they've pitched it right i think. below evo in terms of the types of car but not so grease monkey as PPC ( wink ).

there's a lot of material in there too. i suspect they'll rely on the other mags from the House and it could possibly get a bit cut and paste.. but seeing as GTPP is a decent magazine that's good... not so sure about the other magazines...

but anyway it's good. and well pitched. as it stands i think it could be a good complement to evo rather than a competitor.

bds for drawing yet more attention to the 968cs... masybe i'll have to set my sights on a sport or a 944s2...! wink (was this a cut and paste from GTPP?? (i don't buy it regularly))

Sounds like it has potential then!

Which publisher is it from?
Unity Media. They do these titles:

Banzai - Japanese Performance
BMW Car
Performance BMW
Performance Car
Performance Ford
Performance VW
GT Purely Porsche
Retro Ford

I'll buy the first issue, have a read and see what i think!

Exactly why I'll buy both - I liked it and being as I'm loaded* I laugh in the face of an extra £4 per month ......

Willing to give it a go - website looks pretty good and I guess for a first issue the adverts are not going to appear that much.

Let's hope there are enough legs in the concept to keep it going ad it doesn't just turn into the lazy journo stuff they pump out in their other titles...

Is EVO's art director on board?

Well it's not in the main WH Smith here in Cardiff. Either it's selling like hot cakes or it hasn't reached this far west yet!
