New Performance Car mag - 1st issue
Discussion
Most of those names write for BMW Car or the inhouse Porsche Magazine. There is a market for something more than Classic and Sportscar, more reasonable than Octane and less Supercar mad than Evo. I hope its succeeds!!
Funny but readers love articles like 10K heroes or the 1K challenge, and many people can afford a second fun car for under 25K but few can afford a car above 40K, new or used.

but the layout is so clearly stolen from EVO it’s appalling. The fact you can order prints of the photos just re-iterates that.
hmm.. but they have been offering prints from GTPP for a long while (maybe evo got there 'first' but it's hardly a novel concept anyway..Podie said:
The writing, whilst informative doesn’t sparkle and there is little to keep you engrossed in any of the writing styles.
it's tricky this one. i know what you mean, there was aa definite sign of enthusiasm and definitely informative.. but again i also agree that there was something a bit missing... it's worth an appeal.. CAN YOU TRY AND GET CHRIS HARRIS TO WRITE SOMETHING FOR PC? i do however wonder if it wasn't a deliberate move to be anti-evo and not 'over do it' because that's what a lot of people whinge about...Podie said:
The Chimaera article shows so little understanding of TVRs that it’s sickening for something that it supposed to be a car enthusiast’s magazine. Indeed I could write an entire article on the bits they omitted to cover. Amusingly they are very concerned over running costs in the Long Term fleet, but it doesn’t get a mention here.
haven't read it but what on earth was going on with those stick on lights (l100nyy??!)Edited by briSk on Thursday 21st February 12:48

Apologies if this has already been posted, i have just picked up a copy of this and it seems ok, not as many adverts as its other competitors and the cars seem a lot more affordable, there isnt the heavy emphasis on porsche winning and appearing in everything. there is a nice 80's group test. The longtermers arent as exotic as Evo's and there is even an integra type r amongst them
All in all 4/5

Well just popped out and picked up a copy..
Overall I would say a fairly promising start.
Like the presentation and binding for a start, and although the layout looks a bit sparse, it's quiet clean and easy on the eye if not as designer as certain other title.
It's certainly not trying too hard to impress with the Mac skills.
The Elise story looks the most inviting when I have a sit down and actually read it later.
I like the mix of old and new and hope they can deveolp their own format a bit more as the structure of the magazine is quite heavily influenced by evo.
They seem fairly keen on inviting opinion on what's good and what's not so is a good time to get request in on what you want from the magazine now before the format settles down too much
I wonder what their subscription delivery times are like......

Were on there when we took it in, easily removable and I have since sold the car. The new customers has removed the lights anyway.Podie said:

Well, I picked up a copy yesterday and had the chance to have a bit of a read last night.
I really like it. I like the layout, I think the photograpy is good. The content is great imo. Just the sort of cars that I want to read about. Unlike when I read EVO, I don't feel poor/inadequate!
One thing that particularly stood out was the broader definition than EVO has of what constitutes an performance/interesting car, illustrated nicely by the listings bit at the back.

Picked up a copy today, first impresssions are good, layout is good, excellent photography. I'm not sure it's quite my thing enough to cancel my evo subscription, or to subscribe to the new PC, because I feel that Evo's recent change in subject matter means that it includes both affordable and supercars, and I like that variety. I wonder if PC will include some supercars? Or perhaps 'affordable' secondhand supercars? Anyway I'll buy the first few issues and see how it develops. All in all a welcome addition to the shelves.

Think I might have to have a look for this tomorrow.
I own an Integra Type R DC2 & I would love either a Lancia Delta or E30 M3 next, so just the cars I want to read about.
All those cars are in the first edition - might well be worth hunting out and seeing what you thinkI own an Integra Type R DC2 & I would love either a Lancia Delta or E30 M3 next, so just the cars I want to read about.

Clearly I was wrong, but then what would I know? The missus and I have had 4 TVRs (inc 2 Chimaera's) and never had issues with leaking, trim falling off, failed door mechanisms or hot starting problems.
Right with you there Pods. Never had any problems with my Chimaera 500 in 6.5 years of ownership either. It's pathetic really. Rehashed second-hand preconceptions. Still, I hear Chimaeras have a "great sense of natural rhythm" or something.
I'll give it a couple more issues to find it's feet... only read a couple of the articles, but with the quattro/intergrale etc feature , i felt that i'd read it all before.
O.K being a car nerd and car mag addict for about the last 30 years , i have read it before , younger folk may not have, so fair's fair.
Modified stuff can be made far more interesting , Practical Performance car for example .
There are tons of car mags out there now ,sadly none can hold a candle to Setright era "CAR"....
Octane and Motorsport still have some excellent ,thought provoking articles though.
Ludicrously, i must spend about 80 quid amonth on car mags ,although lately i've been drawn towards stuff like Classic Commercial and Old Glory (vintage and steam engines - suprisingly good read ).. My new favourite title though , is "Classic Plant and Machinery" http://www.cpmmag.co.uk/.
, it's great .
I've go to make it clear here , i've never had any interest in this sort of stuff before ,maybe i've read too many car mags over the years - i dont know.
Maybe the fact that i now buy Classic Plant instead of "Q" magazine says more about me than i care to think too deeply about .
