I find it hard to see how something like that would be enjoyable to drive.

No weight to keep rear wheels pushed down, surely accelerating out of a slower corner would simply result in plumes of smoke?
The engine is over the rear wheels so traction should be better than the Caterham equivalent. Should be an awesome car, the Atom 300 is already as fast as any road car (at least to 100 or so) this will be mind bending.

Seems all a bit pointless without a trick centre diff feeding an AWD system.

Chris Harris was contemplating how much was 'too much' on the latest RS6 video review. Chris, I think I've found your answer.

The new car is recognisable by twin rear intakes for intercoolers and will feature a unique colour scheme for chassis, wheels and bodywork combined with carbon fibre panels and carbon fibre aerofoils.
That's providing you actually see which way it went
The differences will be usefull when collecting the bits from the trees a mile from the circuit and working out what it once was. biggrin

Superb lunacy from Ariel!

It will be mental. If it's not too daft price wise, then I'm certainly tempted. A proper 4 wheel bike if ever there was one.

Why don't people bother reading things before they comment?!

"Is it from a bike engine?"

Headline: Ariel Atom 500 V8 Announced

"It needs traction control"

in the text: as well as launch and traction control

This is a bit insane. Aerodynamic issues will limit its high speed potential I bet.

Pointless, obviously though if people want it, pointless for them but not the manufacturer!

A 10,000 rpm v8 engine? How much does one of those bad boys cost I wonder?

Sounds good, but isn't that what a caparo t1 is?
The Atom is still a useful road machine, and hopefully it won't set you om fire, i mean literally. Is that 500bhp from a Honda bike engine? Don't think the tuners can get sort of power from a CTR engine!?

Edited by fido on Thursday 28th February 15:39
No, its from the RS V8, as seen in the caparo T1 and soon to be found in the latest caterham's
Caparo gave up with the RS V8 a long time ago.

It looks fantastic. I wander if you will be able to buy the body kit for a normal Atom?! Wish I could put my name down!!!

Utterly, brilliantly mad!
Can't help but think 'why?' though....
I mean how on earth are you ever going to be able to put the power down, the 300 has enough traction problems on its own?!

Thats true, but Atoms seem to be mainly be about crazy acceleration, which this one will certainly have!

Can't wait to see some video of it.

It's going to be awesome, clearly, but is this V8 engine reliable? Suppose it must be if Caterham and Ariel are using it, and it doesn't have to do 25k miles a year, but, as mentioned above, I thought Caparo tried it, it blew up at a launch, they struggled to get it to work, then they ditched it?

So how much quicker will this be in comparison to the Ultima GTR720? Will the top speed be as high as the Ultima? If this is in fact over 100k, including the Caterham, wouldn't be more sensible to go with an Ultima instead?

I like this sort of thing. I think we'll look back on the Veyron as the last of the dinosaurs. The power war is over. The power-to-weight war is where it's at now.

The biproduct of this is efficiency. So much the better for pissing off the Green hand-wringers then.
