Dear Bill Ford,

See what can be done when you buy a British car company and run it well, with the products people want to buy.
Aston Martin?
Sold just as it was starting to make money though.
Agreed, odd decision to sell it, but you cannot take away the achievement of ford for providing a platform to allow Aston Martin to make a profit for the first time in 40 years. It is not bad going you have to admit.

But jobs here. If VW have managed to turn Bentley around then why shouldn't they take the rewards from that? Bentley didn't seem to be doing so well under British ownership.

Good on them IMO.
Absolutely. Never seen so many people in Crewe smiling and driving round in nice 'car scheme' cars.

VW have made that factory into something that people are proud to work in.

It would be nice to have the jobs and the profits. When the going gets tough firms seem to be happy to close down overseas factories first.
British ownership and management had their (numerous) chances and failed. If you want some of that profit, buy some VW shares. I'd rather it be foreign owned and in existence than British owned but bust.
British ownership/management failed because, unlike their foreign rivals, it never had the same level of government support. Look at Renault, say no more.
Why not look at VW as a more relevant comparison?

So, all you need to fix up lousy corporate management is to a lousy government management?

The problem with government is that bureaucrats, not knowing the purpose of a profit because they've never seen one in the wild--or even in a zoo--think that a company can get along fine without one. So they tax corporations to a fare thee well and companies either go out of business or send their operations overseas. Then with former employees unemployed, the government decides to encourage businesses by setting up special programs (or programmes in your case) that only foreign businesses can take part in because only they've had any profits!

Government is/are the problem, not the solution.

Glad to hear it. Nice to have a story about a British company that isn't all doom and gloom

They haven't received the same amount of state aid (apart from the British Army)

Chelsea is russian because it is russian owned...Man Utd is american because it is american owned...?????

Sure Bentley are German Owned but the workforce is in England...Just because it is German Owned doesnt make it a German Brand/Car etc.

Obviously, that's why so many felt the need to quote my original comment.
