The trouble with April fool jokes are that every man and his dog is trying to get on the bandwaggon and the public are continually on the lookout for them.

It's quite a believable one after the recent string of overpriced retro-throwbacks aimed at 30-something year old London-ite blondes.

You were working for Austin, then? Testing prototypes years before the car was released for public sale?

BMW have a long tradition of April Fool stories of course?
Remember the Smellovision one (a smell generator which pumped out forest smells if you were driving through a forest etc etc!) which many local papers repeated long after the event as a serious story?!

Me too.
That's the idea! Perfect april fools means you think it's feasible, read more, but being a respected news site they can't just say "BMW gone bust" (or something equally as news worthy) and leave you thinking they really have. That would be irresponsible.

Definitely had me going, mainly because as soon as I saw the headline I stopped reading the text and had visions of a new 6R4 blatting its way through Wales.

Ah well, never mind.

Interestingly two of the few names BMW kept were Metro and Maxi.

I can easily imagine a Golf sized Maxi as most of the "young" set who would buy it will have forgotten the original by now.

Apparently that story was pinched from the BBC.

Now you see a story like that is just cruel on the punters. A re-born escort would be awesome

The REAL joke is on those who are actually persuaded to part with more than twenty grand for a one series.
