RE: New Mini Metro Planned
Discussion

The REAL joke is on those who are actually persuaded to part with more than twenty grand for a one series.
(stands back and waits for the tirade)
Not so much a tirade, by a very calm question, have you driven a 1 series with a powerful engine, for example the 130i M-Sport? If not, maybe consider the possibility of shutting up.(stands back and waits for the tirade)
Think I scraped by the rules there
Perfect gag. Just close enough to being plausible!
I have horrid Metro and Mini memories. My Mum had both when i was little. The Mini was a crappy white Clubman estate and the rear sliding windows were stuck (at least to my 3 year old arms - maybe a good thing!) and it had black vinyl seats that burnt the back of my legs when wearing shorts in the summer! The metro was a different kettle of fish though. It was an ironically named 'Style' version and sported body coloured (cream) hubcaps and a brown cloth velor interior! This particular car replaced an equally st light blue Maestro, but was at least reliable where the Maestro had random electrical faults from new.

Another great april fool article: Porsche engined VW T1.
According to the article, VW will build a limited number (500) of these classic transporters. You'd almost wish it wasn't april 1st...

Great april fool's!
Don't dis the 'tro though...
1993 Metro GTi 1.8 K-Series (118bhp, no mods), 216 gearbox, 0-60 under seven seconds, 35-38 mpg
Have surprised many "proper" cars, the most memorable being a Boxster (presumably the lower powered variant).
Plan for 2008 is to get my little car back to rude health after a year of SORN. Happy days.

Oh for christs sake, I actually believed this from 10am until just now when a friend pointed it out!
In Metro, the free newspaper available from South West Trains stations there was a big article on BMW and the new Canine Alloy Protection System. It stated that anything pissing on the new X6 will get a 200volt zap.

I really am quite genuinely staggered by the number of people who fell for this.
Couldn't you tell even before clicking on the link??
Given the amount of retro cars being built or planned most wouldn't actually be suprised if this were true!Couldn't you tell even before clicking on the link??
"reportedly going to be a larger version of the Mini" tickled me. I often park my 5-Series Touring next to a guys new Mini at work. My 5 looks small next to it!!!
Actually, Fool aside, a properly built 21st century Metro is not such a bad idea.
I once tried a Montego Estate, and bits of trim (including the mirror!) kept on dropping off during the short round-the-block road test.
They were offering 24-hour tests, so I took a diesel out – my head was still ringing from the noise weeks later...

That was a good one but it wasn't exactly what you call it. I can't remember exactly what the words were.. something like Canine Repellant Alloy Protection system - or CRAP system for short....!In Metro, the free newspaper available from South West Trains stations there was a big article on BMW and the new Canine Alloy Protection System. It's a bit too believeable. The Metro is actually remembered with fondness by a great many people...
I have fond(ish) memories of a mates MG Metro Turbo (felt 'very fast' at the time). I loved its diminutive dimensions, lack of weight/inertia and the little 93bhp 1.3 A-series, pressurised carb, turbo engine (although MG's claim of 0-60 in 10.3 wasn't so great!). I dug the little 'green, green... red' LED boost gauge (surely nicked from an 80's 'music centre'?!) where the courtesy light was, and those red seat belts! Also, being very light, those Lotus-developed 2-pot front brakes were really rather mental (and I thought my contemporary 5GT turbo ones were good).I feel old.
