Best tool set for £500?????????????????

I've got the 150 piece Halfords Pro set and it's ace.

Add a decent jack, 4x axle stands, a decent set of screwdrivers, pliers, torque wrench, breaker bar and you'll be set up for most jobs. Then just get other bits and pieces as you need them - about all that was lacking from my set was the 7mm allen socket needed for Peugeot brakes.

are there any halfords pro stuff that i should avoid? does anybody know about the halfords professional lifetime guarantee and if it is voided if working in the trade?

Bought the Flexi-Head Spanner set last month, on closer discovery the 12mm was rusted and would not work (obviously someone had replaced it)... took it in, explained problem, absolutely no questions asked and was replaced. And that was using a trade card (in the business).

sounds like they have decent aftersales, think il go wiv the pros then, does anyone know if there torque wrenches any good?

Does anybody have any experiance with electronic torque wrenches? or is it just something to go wrong?

I used an Elecronic Snap-On one, very very good, can set it electronically to torques, angles etc etc... bit bloomin expensive though!

I'm not impressed with the quality of the cabinets or the tools tbh, but I suppose you get alot of tools for the money so thats not entirely surprising.

Another vote for Halfords tools here; seem decent quality and the couple I've broken over the years have been replaced without question. My Halfords torque wrench now reads about 10% under having been checked by a friend at work but it's been well used for several years.

I've also got a couple of tool boxes with roller bearing drawers from the Machine Mart range, which seem pretty good value for money.

I've got the draper socket set out of that set and it works fine, I'm really happy with it.
