David: I value the Belgiums better drivers than us Dutch . . . I guess you were just a bit unlucky
I have to say I'm with David and Arj on this one. In the end Anne and I were laughing at Belgians when they failed to pull out on us (normally into a space a unicycle would have struggled to make) biggrin

The Dutch clearly drive better yes (and not just for supercarswink)

Must agree on the state of that one stretch of motorway - very nearly caused a slight wobble in the rearmost chandelier of our luxobarge!

Wasn't that car built by Maus Gatsonides, the guy who invented the Gatsometer?

Yes - it's 'Platje', assumedly the only remaining Gatso of ten built in the late Fourties/early Fifties. It uses a slightly tuned 6 cylinder 1.5 litre Fiat engine to be eligible for the 1500 cc touring car class - most of its racing successes though were from lack of competition in its class. It also held the 1 hour record at Zandvoort, but that's it was the first car to attempt such a record,. biggrin Apparently Maus Gatsonides - who has a gallery dedicated to him with trophies et cetera in the Louwman museum, I took a pic of that but turned out blurry - knew how to sell himself well.wink

The Gatso was indeed 'invented' by Maus Gatsonides who was stopped by a police officer for speeding aand subsequently pointed out that the method of speed measurement was a bit lacking in integritywink - however it was largely his son who made a thriving business out of it.

What a moment! Funny such a thing - TVR mishap, what else - would occur at the narrowest place in the whole run . . .

Didn't the green Griff had some troubles as well? Never saw that one after it left the Gallery.

Why not lift that thread out of the restricted part of DF Peter?
Excellent idea; the Driving Fun picture thread is now publicly viewable too, more camels, cars and stuff to enjoy. smile

More Louwman:

Jody's other 6-wheeler was a bit more succesfull . . .

. . . and you can guess why: this one had an extra axle welded on the back, and that was about it.

Fab looking Alfa's, Indyracers in the back.

Nice 33s.

That is what I call a drumbrake.

Lovely Maser showing off the bits.

Alfa LM winner. Odd Bug colour.

Without words.

More . . .

Ahhh..... the final push. Nearly there now! No Candid Camel snaps either smile

Hello Mum! Look closely and you can see me sat on the other side of the road taking the photo and Andrew's car in the hub cap too. Proper motoring this though isn't it? Gorgeous car!

And again - immaculate condition...

Bitter? Me? Not at all, I just took his wheels home as a precautionwink

Lovely 289 curves. Never got around to chatting to the owner - doh!

Suitable accommodation in the background

One more then!

In the absence of any clogs or windmills I give you my next best tourist photo

Smiley

Nobody flush the toilet or this guy will drown! How low in the water?

Purr purr purr..... These cars make me happy biggrin

Ah the now mandatory engine photo as stipulated by EU law... 12 cylinders and 4 turbos in that little space. It's a good start isn't it? A+ for effort I'd say smile

That logo

Yet another arty shot

Mission Control

Cooling off

Thoroughly nice chap opened up the engine bay and everything so I could see better. Wish I had heard it on the run!

Queueing up to test their ground clearance biggrin

I was slightly disappointed and relieved that the ferryman didn't look at all like his picture...

Albert seems to be saying "It floats!" biggrin

It's like Pirates of the Caribbean only slower and with less guns and no pirates or Caribbean

Don't sink, don't sink, don't sink...

Nice car, couldn't believe how quiet or smooth sounding it was for a diesel. DSR mascot stands to attention in foreground

Keep going. Keeeeep going. Perfect. Now all the dead bugs that were on the paintwork are on the ferry ramp. Result!

Impressive rig - almost as big as a Goldwing

Stork's nest [stork sold separately]

Those Jaguar logos are just glorious aren't they? P.S. Hello Mum!

Fantastic car but two seconds after I took this shot the owner stepped on the brake pedal and the Viper logo lit up in brilliant red. Guess who was busy fumbling with their camera? banghead

I say, ding dong! Leslie Phillips makes his getaway in a beautiful Alfa smile

Yes, it's that car again still looking perfect (dammit dammit dammit) biggrin

The wee beastie sounds especially good at startup

Couple of rubbish photos of the SS Big Arse. I was kept behind several barriers unfortunately. I didn't even know they'd met me!

What I should have done was sprint lithely and with much tautness up to the bridge for a sensation photo but on a subconscious level I just thought "Bollards to this, I'll buy a postcard" biggrin

Big ship, little building

Couple of attempts to capture the hotel from the non-harbour side...

And that's all folks (gasps of relief). I spent too long nosing around the car park to get into the gallery and take photos frown I did press my nose against the glass and stare in like those orphans do in the movies but the owners are made of stern stuff biggrin There's always next time though!

There's always next time indeed! Like next year the Spring Run is in the rough already. First week of May?

Great snaps there Andy: I knew you could!

A few comments - I'm wrecked at the moment.

That Cord is a very nice rep and a Klassiekerrally Winterswijk regular. Also a very good event to attend BTW.

Berts Aurora 289 is a stunning thingy. Relaxed 302 in that. Topchap as well.

The Bugatti was a surprise: months ago I mailed my adressbook section 'Car' and he was in. Never heard anything of the man since. Bloody surprise to see Bugblue rolling on the dike!
He also told me he hardly revved past 5k, and that's where the 4 turbo's come in. A bit later we all saw his mate in the 360 Stradale and I believe his dad in the Macca . . . Feck me!

GTRene's Hartge is still for sale folks: awesome thing or what!

The stroll through the little touristic village must've been quite a sight . . . from the pavement that is! There's hardly room for a ferry's load of cars at a time let alone 40 odd cars being loud and colourfull. Local news . . .

We had major luck at the ferry. The river IJssel had some extra water in to get us on the ferry on a not to steep angle. Jan's Diablo raises a few inches and was just fine. I saw an Impreza entering backwards . . . no problems where I so much had expected them.

That ferry can carry twice as much cars so yes, those cyclists dirty looks came from somewherewink

TheFarmers Abby is a lovely dog, all day long in a thundering Cerb - loudest car of the day? - and she got all big hugs from everyone.

Alex Diesel Alfa was quite something. He could hang on with the big guns . . . WTF is in there?

Harry's Vip was on the Anglo-Dutch TR last year. Hernia troubles his back so he had to take it easy. Big bugger for him . . . next time mate.

Aqua blue Alfa is a fav: 2 litres and a joy to see and hear.

Excellent stuff Andy, big thumbs up. The Bug turned out well eh?
Yeah that Bug is really something and I got lucky there smile Really must learn how to use the camera properly. And buy some cleaning cloths. And get a mini tripod for museums. And spend more time at museums biggrin
