More Pics Of Fake Builder's Van
PHer's pics show how far Derbyshire Police will go in bid to catch speeders

emember the speed trap disguised as a builder’s van?Since the pics of Derbyshire police repainting their speed van blue to catch out drivers appeared on the web they have been published in a number of national newspapers.
Today PH was emailed by PHer ‘samsanthony1’, who took the pics, to draw our attention to a number of other shots he took of the same van.
Marvel at the lengths the police have gone to to make the van look authentic.
You can see how they carefully piled up rubbish around the windscreen for that authentic ‘on a break’ look.
One of the wheels has been painted black as well in a bid to make it looked used and abused.
Samsanthony said when he approached the van the back window – used to point the speed gun out of – closed, although he got a shot before that happened.
He said there was fake plasterboard dust around the rear of the vehicle and also the screwfix catalogue in the dash window.
The sneaky attempt to disguise the van sparked outrage when it first appeared.
Brian Gregory, of the Association of British Drivers, said: ‘They are going down exactly the same route as the police in Australia and America.
'In one case in America an officer actually dressed up as a tramp while operating a speed trap. How long before that happens here?’
Thanks to samsanthony1 for the pics!

Ie. it's still owned by plod but further more shouldn't they have made the DVLA aware that the colour has changed? I thought that was a legal requirement?
There is another possibility, it really is a builders van, but it's stolen and they have chosen a very unfortunate registration number to steal!

The van IS being used for speed detection, as the marked vans were having "no impact whatsoever".
They are planning to introduce more unmarked vans in Derbyshire.
I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but
"Can't they catch some real criminals?"
I mean putting all that effort into catching speeders? Why the fk can't they spend the same amount of money not losing laptops or, cathcing paedos or....., or.....
Whoever thought this was a good idea should give a press statement as to the reasons why (s)he thought it was a good idea and exactly why they were doing it...
It really endears people to the Police as well doesn't it?
Pathetic, pathetic money-grabbing twunts...
Presumably, "no impact" means they werent catching people speeding, because they all slowed down when they saw the jam sandwich.
So they have changed to a disguised car, so they catch more people speeding.
Proof, thus, that they are not interested in whether people are driving badly or not, and only interested in catching people and sending them £60 doughnut bills.
Disgusting.
In any case, you can see the reasoning behind the unmarked vehicles, which would have a deterrent effect at all times (or rather the knowledge that they exist) rather than marked vehicles which would only deter when they are visible, with no deterrent when not visible.
I would suggest that what they meant was there was no impact because people could easily see the properly marked vans, and thus would speed when they werent present.
However, the knowledge that any van could contain a camera would ahve the affect of slowing people down generally.
The road outside our house occassionaly (very occasionally) has a copper in his flourescent jacket aiming a radar gun up the road. However, the only affect it has on speeding is when he's there. When he's not, people just do whatever speed they like. His highly visible presence has NO effect the majority of the time, and even when he is there, he's ineffective becasue the people that normally blat through there at double the speed either see him or get warned by other drivers.
Now if he was just a little bit more 'covert' he would catch more people in the act and deter more people from speeding even when hes not there, as they cant really be so sure.
I was exceeding the limit recently on a road and slowed down whilst approaching a van parked in a layby that looked a litle 'suspect'. It wasnt a police van, and it turned out to not even be a camera van. But the thought that it could have been one had its desired affect on my speed.
QED, the mere idea that some camera vans are hard to spot has a desired effect on the general publics behaviour in terms of exceeding the speed limt.
Its also interesting to see the amount of cars that will slow on the motorway when they come up behind one of those HATO wagons.
