Considering its from 2004 it looks very 80's Mercedes inside!
I agree it looks not so great, but not 80s Merc bad... not much worse than the interior of an 80s Merc.... aside from the exterior of an 80s Merc. wink

I know it's not exactly a barge, but...

Do we really need two whole kidneys?

It was a particularly nice one, and a proper private sale. Another car where loads of people suggested the price was ludicrous yet it sold very quickly.

So that is the good. This is the bad. This steering wheel just looks out of place here. It is almost the only black part in view. It just needs some coordination. You wouldn't see something like this in a Bentley.

They always do these days and you're right... lots of people saying they're not worth the asking price yet they always seem to sell. When you drive one you realise why!!! Brilliant cars!

I wouldn't touch a Phaeton due to my Passat W8 experience. Terrible engineering!

Right then, which barges are SIMPLE and therefore hopefully reliable? Old school or newer. 1k to 20k. List anything which isn't laden with shoddy electrics and mechanics...

Thanks smile

Sorry to hear about your Passat troubles I know someone who ran one for ages without problems despite it complicated engine, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Phaeton is wrought with problems, people who actually own one (like me) have clocked up starship mileages without issues.
For your information Barges in this price range tend to be very high spec cars with loads of electronic and mechanical gadgets.

I wonder whether the previous shape XKR might be an interesting barge. They don't seem too laden with gadgets. What are peoples views on their reliability? Or is it wise to save up more for the all new shape (admittedly at 50-100% more cost).

Or the original shape Monaro coupe is rather appealing to me.

I also like the CL, but I am not sure if these are too complex for my liking!

It looks like this has now sold, I have been noting late W12's that come up for sale and the last three have sold within a week of being advertised. Is the new owner on here? I'd like to hear your impression of it.

Speaking of large engined Volkswagens... This is the only one on AT. Bit left field for the thread but I'd imagine it's a nice place to swallow miles.

In need of some inspiration. I posted recently in the 1-5k thread but my heart lies much more in the 5-10k range.

So, is there anything out there? I like the idea of a Jag (06 XK / 09 XF Supercharged) or perhaps a Merc (5.5 CL / CLS) - would be a first for me for either make.

Other choices could be a BMW - had far too many or an LS460 if the right deal was about.

Anyone on here (?!) looking to part with something? I bought an LS430 years ago from the other barge thread.

One of the lucky sods who owns a super rare v8 bmw 5 series touring [estate in english] is rumoured to be selling. Also there have been a couple of others linked to recently which are for sale. Call me a puff if you like but in my view a 360 bhp 5 litre v8 is enough for most mortals and they're relatively cheap for what you get. You can find the thread here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=153...
