Magic

Def best road car I've driven, easy, the rest don't come near, faster than most in the wet.

Mine cost 15k in 4 months :-)

As did simongrale's who no doubt when he gets into work will be posting on here. Great cars though cause a stir where ever you go in them but very fragile.

If I could afford the likely bills I'd have one in an instant - a proper driver's car! Talking of which, I take it someone's mentioned the complete minter on the 'Best of the rest' thread? Anyone with £40k would have themselves some VERY desirable metal...

What I find odd is how they've managed to avoid the Barry-boy attentions of the Pulsar, Scooby and (to a lesser extent) early-Evo's, as IMHO they look the part even better than the others.

Apologies for not posting a picture ( I don't know how you do it )

I had a 1992 Monza Red Evo 1 with around 6k spent on th engine and turbo.

It broke my heart when i sold it but it broke the bank when i owned it so it had to go.

The Focus RS I replaced it with was a stop gap before buying a house it was quicker on the track but it didn't have the passion and charisma of the ' grale' also the grale on a badly surfaced wet B - road was just about quicker than anything.

I've driven lots of the Jap stuff and found the Lancia quicker and more capable in the real world.

I so nearly got tempted with an Evo 2 Gaillo at the end of last year but decided that a VX220 Turbo was the more cost effective route to go. ( I was right ).

I will have another integrale when the time is right but that may be a few years yet especially as an F348 may be on the cards this year.

i know you meant that.....they are expensive to fix properly and break with alarming regularity, most have been abused and run on a shoe string with stop gap repairs leaving the next owner with potentially huge bills to sort out underlying problems. Having said that though nothing else has the charisma, pedigree, noise and wow factor of one of these on full chat..the rare occasion that simonigrale's was running totally right it was awesome flying over to PF on a wedsday for some karting action....

Buying them is one thing, keeping them in tip top condition is that hard bit. I don't mean to compare them to an Impreza but I just know them better. I'm looking for a 2nd car and for 8K I could get either a nice EVO1 or a V5/6Type R Impreza. To me, I feel that EVO1 would be a complete leap of faith that it wouldn't need have a massive bill waiting for me. With the Impreza, unless really unlucky, its unlikely to land me with a huge bill. I don't think I could afford to run the EVO1 but it would be nice to have something a little bit more "grown up" if thats the right word biggrin

I love my 8v Integrale, had it for 9years now with a few little mods attatched to it now but i would never choose an Impreza over an Integrale Evo, you get oodles of respect driving an Integrale maybe not the quickest thing on the road but its presence says it all and i dont think they would be anymore expensive to run, also i think the biggest mistake of Integrale ownership is not driving them regular, keeping them clean and locked up is'nt the way to go, keep them well lubricated with regular oil changes and the usual under bonnett checks will give you hassle free motoring...they need to be used to keep things turning instead of seizing, just my 2p worth.....;)

Another sign from above telling me I shouldnt even be contemplating selling my 'Grale!

  • Sigh* simply put, the greatest rally car ever made and one of the greatest road cars ever made.
Anybody who tells you modern rally bred machinery will lose you on the road is travelling too fast for road conditions because under anything approaching safe or sane they wont.

Oh and tan Italian leather interior with matching high backed Recaros and an exterior paint work of BRG/Verde York...you cant beat it smile
lovely cars and most succesful rally car ever made perhaps but definately not the greatest, any of the new wave of rally cars would dominate it these days, but yes a triumph in its day. and an evo9 would do it on the road too but again amazing in its day.

Standard Mit Evo 5/6/7/8/9 etc would not lose one down country lanes, these cars are even faster in the wet! I'm talking over 100mph not 60 by the way, pushing any of the cars beyond this would prob end up in death.

Torsion V Viscous diffs are also far better for feel, always felt a slight delay with the Mit Evo, the Lanica giving instant feedback.

One was boring to drive, the other is a racing car.

The interest there still is in the Integrale always amazes me; it`s nice to know people still appreciate a proper driver`s car. The problem with the Integrale in this technological age is that you only get out what you put in; if you concentrate and drive it properly you`re in heaven, if you relax and expect the technology to help you out you`re in the hedge! The Integrale isn`t a mobile Japanese arcade game, it`s a high performance car that rewards skill and concentration but bites laziness.
If you want one, find somebody that already has one and chat to them; most owners will be happy to talk and give you a ride ( I know I would ) then find the best one you can and enjoy yourself.
I will be at Thirlestane Castle on June 1 and Supercar Sunday at Gaydon on June 15 if anybody wants a ride and help the Sporting Bears charity at the same time. I will be in the white 16v.

Totally agree with the respect comment when I see an Integrale out and about. It really is a treat. Also agree with the use it factor. I spoke to a chap in the Monmouth area on the phone who knew about these cars and he said you'll have more problems living the car standing for 6 months rather than giving it an airing every couple of weeks during the off season.

As for getting the most out of cars, personally, I don't really welly my cars. Its more to do with owning the thing rather than how quickly I can get it on its roof smile

Is it right the EVO1 has a bigger turbo? When I looked into JDM imports the prices of EVO1 and 2s were much closer than they are in the UK. Also checked out a Verde York EVO1 - the leather looks like its been pinched from a Ferrari. Gorgeous.
