I'm was lookin on auto trader and found this 330i coupe. The description says "New 272Bhp Euro 4 model, with 173g/Km emmissions." In technical data it says 50.4 mpg for extra urban. I think that is very impressive.

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/adve...
The 330i does NOT have 50.4mpg or173g/km emissions!!!

Just checked, apparently it DOES have 173 emissions. That's quite something (or they're somehow cheating the tests!!

39mpg tho, not 50.

On BMW site:

Urban (mpg) 28.5
Extra-urban (mpg) 50.4
Combined (mpg) 39.2

Fair enough they claim that.

I don't believe anyone will get those figures however.

Seems BMW's new efficient dynamics sh*t does make a difference.

Maybe not, but then BMW aren't claiming they could either...

1999 E38 740 (4.4 V8) Town 18 - 23, Motorway 30-32.

On a recent run to Marbella it averaged 32.7. (1500 miles each way - 90% on cruise control)

Once you also factor in negligible depreciation I find it a suprisingly cheap car to run .
I'm so glad it's not just me!!!

1999 E38 740i (shorty)

Did 500 mile in 2 days on one tank of fuel last week

Wed Evening

- Home to Stanstead and back after picking up my mate who flew down from Scotland

Thursday Morning

- Home to Hammersmith (in London) Had a great day on the sauce and watching Rugby followed by more sauce

Friday Morning

- Hammersmith to Stanstead (drop of Mate)
- Stanstead to Hadleigh (near Ipswich) Pick up some parts for a project car
- Hadleigh to Home

So 500 miles tank average mpg for the tank 30.7

But overall average for the year increased to 27.4

OK I don't do many short trips (use a Olop for that) but running a big V8 in a luxo barge doesn't hurt as much as everyone thinks it does

2007 lexus rx400h gets about 28-30 mpg in london a bit heavy footed ( the heavier the traffic the better it does) my mum gets 32-36 mpg but thats no over the speed limit on the road , mway gets 36mpg
That's interesting...

With my RX300, its the town driving that is the killer and really drops the average. On A-roads I get around 30MPG and motorways around 28MPG. In and around town with free-ish traffic and its about 22MPG. Stop start with congestion and its 20 or less....

Thankfully I don't drive in or around a major city and hence my overall average is 27MPG. Overall I am pretty impressed by this as its not a small car and the 3.0 engine with an auto is never going to be economical.

Good to see that the Hybrid offers something, in this case better economy around town - which is always the killer with big engine cars with automatic gearboxes. Deffo consider the hybrid come a couple of years.
RX400h is hybrid - the slower you go the more the electric motor takes over, so the better mpg you get.

2004 Golf Tdi (150hp but re-mapped) best ever 61.5 (over 30miles), worst ever 42mpg (over 300miles), normally read 48-51mpg.

2006 Golf R32 Mk5 best ever 35.5 (over 70miles), worst ever over 9.7mpg (over 170miles), normally read 16-18mpg.

2006 BMW Z4M Coupe best ever 43.5 (over 70miles), worst ever 19mpg, normally 22-23mpg.

Best ever = doing the whole journey as ridiculously as possible coasting down hills and never really going over 55mph.

Worst ever = doing the while journey as fast as possible changing almost every gear in the red, toe and healing into corners and exiting full throttle from the apex.

Normal driving = probably as fast as anyone is going to drive on the road normally. I never hang about, dont sit behind anything but dont drive like a fool or sit at high revs either. This is how I go to work and back.

Some of those figures put both all 3 of mine to shame !

2001 Mondeo TDDi estate work car, 36ish around town & 38 - 40 on a run. I drive quite briskly & always use the power to accelerate back up to cruising speed (*around* the legal limit on motorways). Carry a few tools etc in the back but probably less than one average person in weight.

1990 GTO Twin Turbo - Mostly shortish runs <10 miles. Quite heavy footed but again within a small margin of the speed limits 15mpg :-( i have had 23 on a long motorway run.

1995 Mitsubishi Delica 2.8TD - again mostly local drives from cold with heavy booted #er indoors driving... under 20 (used it for a couple of long rns & struggle to get 25.

Maybe I need to change my driving style, i'm no maniac but always look to make swift progress & seem to have mastered the art of converting fuel to motion in a very uneconomical way frown

How about MPG when 5-up and having a full boot.

could be useful seeing the difference between empty car with just the driver?

My 1.6 proton goes from 40mpg empty with just driver, to 20mpg when 5-up and a full boot

1998 VW Caddy van LPG. Normal day to day running 28-30mpg. Best 31.5 mpg. Gas around 50% cost of petrol. Find me a small van even brand new and diesel that can return 60+mpg. There ain't one. She's for sale shortly if anyone interested. Battered as F*** but mechanically A1

I do mixed driving. Some months I get 30mpg, others 27mpg. Doesn't matter Vpower or normal! Kinda strange!
