2006 Fiesta ZS tdci - last 4 weeks, 54.7 mpg mixture of twisties, long motorway and town driving (2000 miles ish)

Currenlty reads 62.3 over the last 112 miles, mainly to work and back.

Once managed an indicated 71.2 over a 200 mile journey involving heavy motorway traffic, 50-60 mph max and town driving.

54plate focus 1.8 115 TDCI (80K): 99% motorway driving and keeping it below 85mph but alot of the journey is 50-65mph which helps bring the mpg up. normally returns around 48-50mpg.

XK : according to the trip is showing 18.5mpg, but filling up and calculating by hand shows 20.8mpg that is 80% town driving.

The other half's 350z (the 'old 280bhp model) is doing the same 7mile each way to work and back as me, with an average of around 23mpg.....

on a run to Silverstone a few weeks back, using cruise control, i got an average of 32mpg over 300mile return trip! and i wasn't hanging about apart from thru the 5miles of 50mph roadwork limits.....

2007 lexus rx400h gets about 28-30 mpg in london a bit heavy footed ( the heavier the traffic the better it does) my mum gets 32-36 mpg but thats no over the speed limit on the road , mway gets 36mpg
That's interesting...

With my RX300, its the town driving that is the killer and really drops the average. On A-roads I get around 30MPG and motorways around 28MPG. In and around town with free-ish traffic and its about 22MPG. Stop start with congestion and its 20 or less....

Thankfully I don't drive in or around a major city and hence my overall average is 27MPG. Overall I am pretty impressed by this as its not a small car and the 3.0 engine with an auto is never going to be economical.

Good to see that the Hybrid offers something, in this case better economy around town - which is always the killer with big engine cars with automatic gearboxes. Deffo consider the hybrid come a couple of years.

renault clio 1.2 16v on 52 plate. constantly averages 48mpg regardless of the journey. did about 51 mpg on a long motorway trip to sheffield last year and around towns and built up areas it gives back about 46mpg.
have noticed i drive a bit more conservatively recently, changing at 3-4K rpm etc. still cant argue with 48mpg and its not a diesel.

have driven a few hire cars recetnly for motorway trips and generally unimpressed with the mpg, parrticularly the ford tdcis, plenty of go, but thirsty engines...

Megane R26 (2.0T) 29mpg but up to 36mpg on a Motorway run. Only got 1000 miles on it though so I am expecting this to improve.

My old Clio 1.2 (55 plate) used to get 42mpg and that was not really trying. Could hit 50 if I tried.

Lotus Elise S2 111S: About 37mpg average when commuting (about 4.5 miles of suburban and country roads); 45-50mpg at motorway speeds; 25-30mpg when pressing on. Manufacturer's figure is 41mpg which sounds about right to me for an average (relatively gentle) driver.

Of course the problem, is that every journey ends up being twice as many miles as it should have been.
