Parked in a disabled space?
Don't disabled people buy BMWs then, or is it the law that they must have a Kangoo?randomman said:
Didnt some Beemers have the M sport badges anyway?
One more in the guys defense that it could be an Ex M£ owner that paid a fair bit for that plate.
The fact that it lacks any other badges does seem to imply that he's trying to pass it off as an M3 though. Don't understand private plates anyway, but having one that's clearly aimed at a car you don't own seems even more strange. One more in the guys defense that it could be an Ex M£ owner that paid a fair bit for that plate.
Still... it's his car, he can do what he wants with it.

Like the bloke I was talking to to at Oulton Park a couple of weekends ago:
Me "Nice 5 series, I thought the M5 had wing vents and four exhausts"
Him "I got them deleted - didn't want people thinking I was flash and buying an M5"
Me "Interesting, why didn't you remove the M5 badge then"
Him "Ummmmmm......"
I don't understand these people, the only people they'll fool are the people who don't know / care what car they are trying to impersonate, those who do care will spot them for what they are - idiots

Today, car park at John Lewis in Bristol.
Maybe it's a genuine one and this is a clever 'double bluff'?
this guy lives all of 5 mins from my office. used to have a 320i cabby with 'm' badges all over the shop.Today, car park at John Lewis in Bristol.

DVLA tells us it's a 330i M-Sport.
So, whilst I'm not condoning his actions, I suppose an 'M' badge is OK but the M3 plate is a bit far. I'd understand perhaps if he'd gone from an M3 to this (my boss has just done E46 M3 to E92 335) but apparently he hasn't even done that!
Even more interesting though is that it's been LPG'd according to the Auto Trader vehicle check.
Don't get me started on the use of disabled space if not actually disabled . . . .

Don't disabled people buy BMWs then, or is it the law that they must have a Kangoo?I am sure people buy 318i's etc and then buy an M3 plate as an incentive to get themselves that actual real live M3 one day. Aspiration is no bad thing but conning people into thinking its something its not has a whiff of Barry about it.
I can see why a teenager in a 1.1 saxo may want people to think he owns a VTS that he cannot afford to run, buy or insure.
But that car seems a very recent 330i so not a poor man's car. Why be ashamed of what you drive yes its not the top of the range model but you are hardly likely to be laughed at for saying 'I drive a 330' but saying 'I drive an M3 lookalike' may provoke a or 2.

I recently saw an E46 M3 with a 318 badge. There could be lots of reasons to do this (many admirable i.e. less likely to draw plods/teenage paint scratcher's attention etc), however, it did rather look like a rugby player dresses in drag on a rugby club night out. The flared arches, the chrome vents, the wide tyre width, made me chuckle..a rare site to have 'gone the other way'..

I like it when people do this. It's totally different than the aspirational badging thing and is like a sort of "in" joke becuase its only people that know a little about vars that do it. Edited by hewlett on Monday 4th August 10:52

M Sport versions and M cars are two very different animals. I have an M Sport BMW, the only M badge on view outside the car was one the previous owner had put on - needless to say it came off rapidly. The M Sport cars are distinguished by different bodykits and wheels not badges - certainly not factory fitted badges anyway. You can be pretty certain that any non M car with M badges is something the owner has done. What will always remain confusing however is that the ///M logo in both cases is the same. Now where's that ebay advert for the W\\\ keyring when you need it?
