It's amazing the number of 3 series you see about with M/M3 badges on them, just wait 'til you hear those 4 cylinders roar though!
You mean unlike the 4-cylinder E30 M3? Or the 'BMW M-Powered' 4-cylinder Brabham BT55?
Was that the f1 engine with the best name ever?

There was an M badge squashed into the kidney grill too, a large one that no doubt affected airflow to the engine, couldn't get a picture with though..

Maybe with fuel prices going up the M Division is turning their attention to smaller capacity power units? wink

Are you being purposefully dim or what? That car is a 525d M Sport. Read that back to yourself. M Sport. Yes, M. In the model name. If you dont like it, bh at BMW. It's no different to some guy sticking SE on the back. Perhaps a little sad but nothing more.

Wow an M Sport with an M badge on it. To add to the other nine or so on the car.

Worth risking points on your licence for, was it?

Yes, they are actually. The 118d M Sport, through to the 535d M Sport.

Seeing the link there? M Division, M Sport. Penny dropping yet?

Can we have a thread where we take the **** out of people in Fords for having a badge on the back saying '1.6' or something? It's pretty much the same thing.

If people have a problem with a dilution of the M brand (And an ignorance of BMW history to go with it, giving M branded normal cars predated the first proper M cars bar the M1) then I suggest they take it up with BMW themselves rather than taking grainy camera phone pictures of 118d M Sports.

Yes, but I thought we concluded (or at least I did) that (a) BMW don't put M badges on the boot lid of M-Sports, and (b) if they did, they wouldn't put them in such ludicrously unbalanced positions.

But if someone wants to put one there why not? Provided they've got a Sport model they are not pretending it's anything it isn't, are they? Perhaps they like it?

That badge just doesn't look like BMW put it there (which is where the humour comes from)..would BMW really dilute the M5/M3 models by allowing M Sports to wear an M badge?

No, they dont.

But what some people (including the o/p) are concluding is that if someone has put an M badge on the back of a 320d the owner is trying to kid people that its an m3.

Putting an M badge on the back of your car = slightly embarrassing.

Thinking that M is only associated with an M car = very embarrassing.

I don't think anyone here has indicated that (they believed) that the 'M' is not associated with M Sport models too.

It's a good visual that shows the exterior differences between the sport and non sport model, it doesn't show the M badge on the boot but actually you can't see any of the other M badges that do go elsewhere on the car.

You're right - he probably asked the dealer to fit it.

I had a look round our car park and none of our 5 Sports had this badge on the boot.

Really? Heres a handful at random

When referring to the original post of a 3 series with an M badge.

No way is this genuine doesnt have a carbon roof and I would imagine would be very expensive and stupid to replace with a normal metal one it is obviously some tosser trying to trick people into thinking his 330d is an M3 when they is no point as they are both good cars in there own right and he has managed to ruin it.
When referring to a 7 series with an M badge

...passing off a 330i as an M3 isn't the biggest crime of the century, but the owner clearly wants to associate himself with the M3 rather than the 330i for a number of reasons.

Personally I see the M and M Sport as completely different things like I do with Audi's S line an RS models and think it is stupid to badge an M sport as an M and Audi S lines as an RS model I do know they is an association I just find it annoying when people do it as I get the feeling some of them believe it will trick people into thinking they have the real deal.
