Pity the one in the pic has been spoiled with Saxo VTS wheels.
It hasn't. Those were the standard alloys.
Nope, they are Saxo VTS wheels.
Crikey they are very similar aren't they smile
Yeah, except the Saxo VTS wheels are 15" rather than 14". It's a common swapwink.
In that case - good spot!

But you still get a nerd for your troubles....

I had my Quiksilver for 2 years and still frequent many Peugeot forums, so it's much deserved!!

I have been using its bigger brother, imo equally capable, and very practical.

And for 1.5k I couldnt find anything better at the time, 0-60 takes 7 secs, its got a big boot, handles well, looks good still.

Rock on 306 gti and 106 gti. Sadly pug have failed in recent times.

Blimey, I got quoted quickly. I deleted my original post almost immediately, once I realised the error of my ways smile

Am I right in thinking that one of the major problems with the 106 is that the pedals are REALLY close together? So much so that if you have a shoe size of anything over 8 you'll be hitting all 3 pedals at once?

As the Saxo VTS is practically the same car, is this an issue on these too?

I ask because I'm considering either as my next car.

Cheers
I own a 1.1 106 look and the pedals are very close together, thats true, they are the same for the GTi, but a mate of mine has a GTi and hes 6'4 with size eleven shoes and he manages just fine.

Im looking for one also, so if you have one youd like to sell, do let me know. Money waiting. smile

pedals are close but size 9 here was always fine, shoes off if feeling clumsy that day. AX GT had closer pedals so the 106 seemed like a much bigger car to pedal along.

I had two of these and they were bloody brilliant. The first one suffered a tragic end (due to me being a cock) and after 6 miserable months in a Punto, I had to get another. That had to go in the end as it was getting old and I (thought I) needed to grow up. I still really miss that car though. I've a Focus ST170 and an mk 3 MX-5 now, neither of which are shoddy handlers, but the little Pug could run rings round both of them.

Brilliant car. Cheap, good looking and great fun to drive. I'd love a mint yellow one for weekend blasts biggrin

And if you can't drive one with anything less than size 12s you're an oaf! wink

A mate of mine bought one a 'W' plate a few years ago. It was a cracking little motor with loads of go, a real go kart.

He ended up selling it to his lass and he bought an Elise, sort of makes sense stepping up from a front drive go-kart to a rear drive one!

Those wheels were also fitted to the Xsara VTR before the paxo nerd

I get on perfectly well in my 106 with size 11 dr Martins every day, granted there isn't much stretching room, but I don't make any mistakes between pedals in it.

Great Shed BTW.

This car really is one of the great front drivers! I bought a 1.6XS (1.6 8V 90BHP - same as a Saxo VTR but completely stealth on the outside, no bodykit, steel wheels and trims, manual windows and dirt cheap insurance etc.) as a stop-gap car a few years ago whilst my new car was on order.

I had fantastic fun in it, the lift off oversteer was enormous (my girlfriend at the time hated it with a passion!), the sports seats were really comfy, the steering detailed, the engine made that classic Peugeot sound.... happy days!

I'm looking for a car for my girlfriend at the moment and even the 1.4 is quite fun, the GTI though is obviously a different league. At this money perhaps I should be looking for a GTI scratchchin If you find one with a ruined interior this could make a fun trackday car for very little and with plenty of tuning / handling options available too.

Top shed! thumbup

Brilliant cars! Bought my wife a black one (the early ones before the half-leather seats became standard). So much fun that I bought a silver one for myself as well! Revived the spirit of the Mk 1 Golf GTi and improved on it. Just glad niether of us crashed one, as they fold up dramatically and lethally as I witnessed once.

Only a few minor niggles then (electrics) but it could be a nightmare to maintain a leggy one now ..

Yup, little bro replaced an AX 1.0 with a Saxo 1.1 and noted straight away that he was enjoying the extra space between the pedals!

I bought one of these in 1997 to replace the 1.9 205 i'd had for 4 years. Sorely dissapointed, electrical problems from day one which they never cured, even when it was running ok it was in a lower league in terms of handling than the older 205. I've not owned a Peugeot since, real shame as I did love my hot hatch days.

i had a VTR for a couple of years (same pedal box). Granted i am no giant but it was no bother and heel n toe was very easy
I also had a VTR for a few years and didn't have a problem with the pedal box (sz 8 shoe). VTR was a fantastic steer (Got more 4w drift than Oversteer - honest).

And I loved the 1.6 8v engine; it picked up so nicely in the mid range which always suited the kind of nadgery lanes I used to drive, down in Devon. Never tried a 106 GTI/VTS, but heard stories of them being pretty peaky.

Was about to say the same thing actually. Never owned a 106 but have had 3 205 gti's and the whole feel of them is a lot cheaper, and 205's are hardly well built. Apart from the handling I've only ever read bad things about 106's. Usually a multitude of things going wrong. I'm sure its fun to drive but I coulnd't do with the upkeep.

And the silly door handles.
