I've just been gradually sorting out my garage. I painted the floor (ran out of paint halfway through and couldn't find the stuff I bought originally so now I have two not-quite-matching shades of grey irked But hey, It's marignally better than fifty shades of grey...). The next step was to move out all the cabinets and paint the walls - using a fascinating range of leftover pots of emulsion from house improvements, in various interpretations of magnolia, lol . I'm going to hell for the sheer number and variety of spiders I murdered via the medium of Henry Hoover. Everything from little evil false widows to spindly harvestmen to huge hairy-assed wolf spiders. My jaw aches from clenching my teeth for hours. Honestly, I'm so arachnaphopic I've lost about two stone in sweat and now everytime I see anything move out of the corner of my eyes (leaf, cat, kids, anything) I jump two feet in the air yuck

...so to the crux of the matter. My garage furniture is a miss-matched array of old cabinets and cupboards that have been acquired over years and basically forced to fit. But nothing does. I figured it was time to replace them with proper storage.. the legs are literally falling off some of them and the only thing holding them up is being propped against the wall

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a fortune. Big Dug looks like reasonable value but I'm a bit leery of their clip-together assembly; will they be strong enough? Anyone have good things to say about them? Or horror stories? Many thanks in advance of any help

Thumbs up from me for Big Dug. I bought the following (model no TXMD1): http://www.bigdug.co.uk/workshop-benches-c348/gara...

It's not fancy and my usage is "light residential" if there is such a thing, but they've proven sturdy and I've no complaints over the last 4 years. They may not have the want-one factor of Dura cabinets but I couldn't possibly justify the cost. If you search about a hundred pages back (!) you may find my finished garage: with some judicious use of white and grey paint, and no-nonsense affordable storage and racks, I don't regret my budget approach.

ETA: arse, link doesn't work. Never mind, easy to find online. I also bought their large metal storage cupboard. Again, affordable and sturdy.

And again...

The re-quote with all the pics again and again does my head in and I think it should become forum etiquette to not do it and just adopt a quote to include the post # or such like to show the one you are talking about or maybe the forums could develop a micro quote to just thumbnail the pics for the requote?

Your link didn't go anywhere.

Do you mean they do have a hash tag number? If so, I know that; that is not what I meant, I meant adpot people just using that instead of multi posting all the pics over and over.

I.e. The workshop / garage on post #55 is my favourite....

It goes to a 'reply' page with the code relating to post 35785027. It's a DB, they have numbers, and you can see them in the URL.

So posts per topic, no, it doesn't have that....

You don't have to.
Simply quote and keep the text and say the first picture, so it's clear who/what you're addressing.

I haven't understood any of this. I'm off to find one of the children to help me.

Here are a few of my garage. The ramp allows me to still put two cars in there side by side, as I can drive over it. its also really versatile as I use it as a bike lift as well.

I have a workshop to the side with a lathe, drill, bead blaster, welder and an old milling machine, and a store above the garage via the stairs

Do any of you have fire extinguishers in your garages? I have one in the car but it occurred to me that I should fix a couple ready to hand on the garage wall. But, which type, foam or dry powder?

One of the first things I did was put a fire extinguisher at the entrance door and one at the up and over door.

Imagine a small fire had started and you could do nothing!

I got a large dry powder one from eBay as an insurance policy. It should cover all of the likely fires in a garage (fuel, electrical)

Kind of garage-related... I use Virosol for various purposes, including cleaning my alloys, and just noticed the container was leaking, and it has lifted the garage floor paint off the floor. I wiped away the liquid residue off the floor, and the wipe was effectively covered in red paint from the floor (it's been painted for about 4 years). So it's strong stuff - i can see why it removes the brake dust from the alloys so well!!

Yes - having used a CO2 one to put out a fire I accidently started in a mate's garage it was an essential - he sheepishly asked for the IIRC £150 to refill it and I happily paid - at the time I'd have paid £5k for one !

CO2 is the best IMO as there's no mess however as I have no intention welding again and the likelihood of ever using it is low, I bought a few dry power ones as they are a fraction of the price and good at putting out fires and I probably won't mind the mess.

Any idea what size you have? Having never used one I have no idea what's required for a garage. I only ever see the massive one's that are dotted around my offices!
