Incidentally, did you put all the sockets and ratchet wrenches in the dishwasher first? Mine have a build up of 40 years of dirt on them! I'd balk at putting them in my nice clean £50 layer of shadow foam. frown
Haha yeah at £50 a sheet it'd be something to consider biggrin

He probably just cleans them after each use. I've had most of my tools for almost 20 years now and they must have been used a thousand times or more, but they still look pretty much new apart from the odd bit of inevitable minor damage.
It was just £50 for 4 sheets by the way, and with any order over £50 they supply you with the very sharp knife you need to cut the foam cleanly

One day when I have the time (retired) - I shall also do this. I know where StreetRod is coming from!

I have more tools than drawers though frown

That is something that I want to do at some point, although I have a few other bits to finish in my garage first.

I have to say that does look good and very organised.

I, however, have way too many tools for that system. I keep spanners on the wall but most other items are organised so that all hammers are in one draw, saws another, files another and so on. Most drawers are full so organising in foam would require 3x the drawers.

Can you have too many tools????

That's what I do. Spanners in one drawer separated Whit' & AF in one tin and metric in another. Hammers, screwdrivers and pinchy things (mole grips, pliers, pinchers etc.) in other drawers... etc.

I reckon it's a sound idea. If I had a garage big enough to do anything in I'd do the same. Unfortunately all of my spannering has been done on driveways using high-lift jacks and blue language.

This might actually inspire me to sort out my drawers and do something with the tools I don't use that much, whose main job is to obscure the tools I DO use.

I don't have a 'set' of screwdrivers though, I have several different makes, sizes, different lengths, colours, condition etc - gonna look a right pig's ear unlike yours!

I'm sure it's lovely, and in a professional garage, it may have some value, but for me, on my own, it'd be an almighty pain in the arse. I use Ikea cutlery trays to keep spanners separate from screwdrivers separate from pliers and so on.

I use magnetic tool trays on the sides on my cabinets to hold sockets and small tools, as well as the tools I am using for a specific job. There's nothing more frustrating than spending ages in an inaccesible place, working out which size socket to use, with which elbow, and which extension, only to return to the garage a few days later to find that in a fit of anal retentivenesss, I tidied all the fking tools away, and now have to spend ages working out which ones I need again. So my 'in use' tools go in a mag tray.

I don't pinch my own tools, so I don't need a visual pinboard (or foam board) to see which ones are missing, and the constant compulsion to tidy them up all the time would rive me bonkers.

It's also pretty inflexible when need new, additional or duplicate tools. Looks nice though.

Obviously, you can't have too many tools, that would be ridiculous.

I've got a couple of stand alone dehumidifiers in my garage but I really need to get something sorted properly.

Anyone go any advice for dehumidifiers for larger garages or pointers on who to talk to?

Possibly, but aren’t they more expensive than dehumidifiers and also for a garage I thought you wanted desiccant system so it worked down to low temp?

Posted this before but from experience rotary dessicant dehumidifier work better than refrigerant type. Get one with a continual drain option. Set it to 60%RH. Where poss seal gaps etc so it's not trying to dry the outdoors as well. Insulation helps. I use a cheap low wattage desk fan to help circulate drier air in garage too. If above isn't an option then carcoons etc ok if a little faffy in daily use.

A few from our garage at home. Not as big as I'd dreamt of, but it's great to finally have a place to work on projects in relative comfort.
Getting more work done than I used to!
