I prefer for mdf or ply worktops because they're sacrificial. Steel can be a pain for heat/electricity conduction.
I have a friend who fabricated his own engine build stand/table. He tells me all metal construction is best when building engines.
Perhaps. I prefer engines on a stand so you can get all the way round them.

I used to refurbish aircraft hydraulic components on a metal bench, this was in a hydraulic clean area and was probably mandatory but didn't like the noise and there was always potential to damage a component if it was dropped or fell off during stripdow/rebuild. Never looked the best and was always cold to the touch.

Nowadays stripping down parts offshore we use desks with a 10mm heavy duty rubber top. Seems great for keeping clean as it just wipes clean and even heavy components barely make a dent in it. Only thing to be aware of is when cutting with stanley knives etc, but not an issue if you know about it.

If it starts to look tatty, £30 for a new one

Love it!

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get stuff like that?

Unfortunately now that we are not part of the EU we have to pay VAT and duty.

I see you have a kitchen sink in there. I am considering a sink, properly plumbed into a drain, in my garage. Thinking of one of these cleaner's sinks that I can stand a bucket on because it will mainly be for washing cars.

Thoughts anyone?

Superb. And my dream has always been to have them in a courtyard so I could have glass sides and see them (albeit with a pool in the middle of the courtyard.

wow... that is an amazing site! But at the same time completely dangerous!! rolleyes

I've already won a couple of items, been outbid on some others (probably thank goodness... I bid a little high...), and have currently-winning bids on other stuff.

It's like ebay on steroids for garage-type items biggrin

Looks a superb trip. Let’s hope the world opens up a bit to allow us to make them again soon.

Meanwhile on the garage front I’ve finally had 9 double sockets installed along 3 walls. All now automated on a smart switch on entry so lights come on and F1 the chain plays on opening the door. Now to acquire the cars for it.

They need to be on the same cable circuit to work at their best. Ie on the same ring main.

Once you go through the consumer unit they start to drop in and out a bit more. Depends on the make/model of consumer unit.

I’d order from Amazon, test it and return if necessary.
Ahhhh right.
Garage has it’s own circuit board, so maybe not best to sort my issue.
I sometimes get WiFi in there but it’s so weak it’s not worth trying to do anything.

Thanks for help.
Could you use one of those plugs to get the signal a bit closer by plugging it into the nearest (same circuit board) socket to the garage?
Those TP Link boosters are amazing. I use one for CCTV and gate control around 200m from the house and two more in outbuildings around 50/80m away, both of which have their own consumer units etc.

We have around 60-80meg on BT fibre in the house and still get around half that on the boosters wifi. Great kit for the money and once set up seem very dependable.
